The View from the Shard in London
Hello Fodorites!
Yesterday my friend and I had a couple hours to photograph from the 72 floor of the Shard in London...amazing views I thought might be of interest: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pug_gir...7636964726324/ I really want to go back up at night, the views are amazing! Information about going up is here: http://www.theviewfromtheshard.com/e...FWXnwgodD1oA3A Happy travels! |
Wow, great photos. Put on list for next trip to London. Thanks.

So many iconic shots from one viewpoint!
|
These are excellent - so enjoyed looking through all of them - thank you.
Tempts me to think about re visiting London -you have captured so many interesting details, corners and moods. A delight. |
Hi Jamikins,
Fabulous shots from the Shard and of surrounding areas! I just love London and hope to return to explore more in a few months. I did “do” the Shard last summer one early evening. You are right – the best time to view would be towards sunset and into nightfall. But I was there in June and that would have been too late for me on that occasion. Of course, the SHARD is primarily a business venture with office space, hotels, and a residence. I have read a few times that the management is having a hard time filling it up. Some believe that its location near London Bridge is too far from the CITY and CANARY WHARF, while others found that the unusual pattern of the floor space can be problematic. Who knows? Thanks again – always enjoy your posts…. |

Fantastic photos. I especially enjoyed the night shots. |
Thanks for posting, Jamie! You're an excellent photographer. Love seeing the river's contours through that ancient city.
|
Beautiful!
|
Lovely photos. I wanted to go to the Shard last summer but we ran out of time.
|
Gorgeous shots and thanks for the info, jamikins. I'll be there during week of April 21--do you reckon I can take a chance by waiting for a nice day after I arrive?
|
Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed the photos!!
I don't think you will have a problem booking tickets...there were some available all day on Sat when we left at 9:30 so I don't think you would run into trouble booking once you are here! The 360 degree views are spectacular! |
Great photos !!!
I am getting back to London in early May (a GTG maybe ??? ) and really want to go up the Shard. At least two of the three women traveling w/ me are afraid of heights so I'll likely do it solo. But its walking distance from where we're staying so heck w/ them. >) |
Well the lifts are super quick...but yeah, it is pretty darn high!
When are you in London? |
Arrive May 5, then taking the train oop north on the 12th..
|
Sounds like we could make something work! Let us know when you have your plans!
|
Beautiful photos Jamikins,
Something else to add to my list. Thank you |
Gorgeous photos! And such variety from street shots, to nighttime, to little details!
I am getting so excited about my trip in September! Can't wait to revisit my favorite city! Thanks for sharing! |
Is it still 25 quid each? Even by London's standards for ripping people off that's an hugely expensive way to spend probably maybe 30-40 minutes of your time.
|
Yes Gordon the tickets are £24.95 including tax so just shy of £50 total for two people.
As a comparison Top of the Rock in NYC charges $27 per person plus tax so two people cost $54 total. We spent just over an hour taking photos. The London Eye charges £29.50 each total or £26.55 each total if booked in advance. None of these are cheap but it's not outbid range of similar experiences... |
