I must agree with "inabunch." I just cannot get into wearing thongs. They are most uncomfortable and can get a little nasty. I am about the only girl in my school that still wears the grannypanties but they are quite comfortable and cover what needs to be covered. Plus I think the guys seem to be pleasantly surprised that girls still wear feminine lingerie with lace & ruffles like Marilyn Monroe wore and not wear something that everyone else is wearing and looks like it was bought in a strip club! Besides, if I had to immediately exit my hotel in a life/ death emergency I wouldn't want my butt cheeks hanging out for all the world to see. But, to each his own.

I'm a guy and thongs do nothing for me, I mean on the gals. It looks so darn awkward and uncomfortable I fail to see the point of wearing them at all.
|
I, too, am a Woolite fan. I put some in a little travel bottle, wash my delicates in the evening and they are dry by morning (unless, you are in a very humid climate). Still, I believe in washing my undies (no ratty ones for me).
|
I guess underwear is one reason that I can never travel with just one bag. I wear cotton t-shirts and shorts and they do take up space, especially xtra tall.

For you ladies out there. . .
bring enough, bring the good ones, roll them up, pop them into a ziplock bag and squeeze the air out. I love my bra and undies from Amsterdam and plan on buying more (we leave tomorrow), but you never know when you'll have time to get to the store. I'd rather come home with more than I need and be assured of fresh ones when I dress in the morning. This site made me laugh so hard!!! You guys/gals are a hoot!!!

How about a few pairs of the CoolMax type of fabric - supposed to be cool, comfy, and can be washed out and will dry very quickly. Anybody tried them?
|
I loved your stories, but can't imagine having oud ratty underwear around for long.
I do have a nice suggestion that I've been doing for a while and find it great.
Victoria's Secret makes this hand soap for 10$ that I bring with me on trips (put it in something smaller if you don't want the weight). I handwash my underwear with the most wonderful perfume! It smells fantastic, and leaves the bathroom smelling great too. It takes 3 minutes to do then I hang them in the shower or on the heaters.
We travel for weeks at a time, so this way I don't have to pay to have them ruined by the hotels.
Ciao, Melissa

If you want to eliminate 'older' things, to make room for purchases while traveling, why not discard something more substantial? When we traveled last year, we started in San Francisco, and then headed to Hawaii. We needed warmer things for SF, so we brought older jeans, and then left them behind when we headed to Hawaii. That allowed for more purchases than some underwear!

I can handle the underwear, it's my husband's socks that are the space hogs!

Talking about throwing out old things -- this thread began 2 years ago.

This thread is old but good! Anything that Elvira contributed to is a hoot! And what lessons to be learned about packing underwear!! Topping again~ |
A pleasant thought for the day.
A friend of my wife's who has been "plump" most of her life 'the friend that is' revealed this tidbit one night. 'I wear thongs since they start off where the others end up anywho'. Anyone for breakfast? |
I get a charge out of security guards going through my dirty underwear on my return trip out of Gatwick. I throw them out when I get home.
|
Didn't your mother say, when you wore ratty undies, "What is you get hit by a bus?"
|
My undie story is dear to my heart. My husband fell deathly ill in Salzburg, and we couldn't continue on to Venice, so I needed to find a new hotel with room service (stomach flu). After running through Salzburg checking out all the hotels better than ours (a 2-star), I happened on the Sheraton. What dears those gals at the desk were, offering us a room overlooking the garden for $150, then upgrading us to the business floor. I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel that nice (or a room that huge!). So I washed all my undies and hung them up to dry. But the next AM when room service was arriving, I quickly shoved them all out of sight in a drawer. When packing two days later, I forgot they were there I was so intent on writing a note of thanks to the manager, so we set off for Nice sans most of my undies. I called them from Nice after I realized, but housekeeping said they hadn't seen anything. I presumed that the upscale businessman who replaced us had simply thrown them away. Imagine my surprise when I arrived home to find a nice package from the Sheraton with missing underwear. (Sure glad they were clean!)

I couldn't believe I had missed this old thread, but looking at the dates (May/June of 2001) I see I would have been traveling then.
My very first trip to Europe to Spain with a group of teacher/friends in 1970 brings back memories. One couple told us they were taking all their old underwear -- including old bras for her and that they would throw it all away. We were staying in a nice hotel in Torremolinos and the couple kept sticking all their worn underwear in the corner of their closet behind their suitcases. On the last morning when they got ready to pack they found all of their underwear was gone -- apparently since the day before. They told us about it at breakfast and we all laughed at the thought of someone stealing all their dirty underwear. The last laugh was on them when they got back to their room after breakfast and found the entire stack on their bed, laundered, ironed, and wrapped neatly in brown paper. The charge on their bill for this "service" was just over $ 1.00. They threw the whole bundle in the trash and left, then worried for weeks afterwards that the hotel would end up sending it to them, but they didn't. |
We buy really cheap underwear (or take old if we have them) and throw them in the trash each morning after showering. I first heard of doing this on this board and it works out well. I've always hated carting around dirty underwear.

I usually take a couple of packs of Boots disposable briefs with me. They will actually stand at least one washing if you don't want to chuck them away every day. They aren't very sexy but I'm over 60.
I've never seen disposable bras anywhere though ;-) |
I have never heard of Boots. Where do you buy them and what is the cost? Do they have them for men and women? AND 60 is good! :-)
|
Steve,
Good job man! Kind of like packing in reverse! What a good laugh. |
