" The Millionaire" fantasy trip
Is anyone old enough to remember the 60?s TV program named ? THE MILLIONAIRE?? You know the one where the guy in the black suit knocks on your front door to announce that his boss, the benefactor J. Beresford Tipton, had selected you to receive a cool million bucks with no strings. Well, here is my 2004 version with the twist of a travel fantasy. Imagine the same guy shows up at your door and announces that a private jet is awaiting you at the nearest local airport to whisk you and your partner to your choice of one destination IN EUROPE. And, you will receive a cool 10,000E upon arrival for your personal expenses. But, here are the caveats. The fantasy trip will only last for ten days, and you must depart in the next 3 minutes. Since the time is short, you are only allowed to take the clothes on your back and A MAX OF 4 OTHER ITEMS WITH YOU. So, where would you go and what 4 items would you take with you ? I have made my choices but will keep them secret for now ! |
If it's free, I can buy what I want when I get there, right? In that case, my passport , underwear, and 2 pairs of very comfortable shoes.
|
That's only 1k a day....
Anyway -- Paris and I'm with WillTravel -- passport, an extra pair of shoes and a clean set of underwear;) |
OMG Bob!! What torture! I would love that to happen and would be so drowned in indecision!
Yes, I remember John Beresford Tipton and when I was small, believed that kindly old man to be real..sigh~ I think I would go to Florence, Italy. Of the 4 items, I can only think of bringing a camera~ Can I wait and get back with the other 3? |
Nice post :-)
Unfortunately (well, in this case at least) I live in Europe, so it's not THAT big a deal, and I already picked my favourite city (Barcelona) to live there for a year, and my other favourite (Paris) is too close to home, so let's go for the 3rd... Rome... been there only once, would love to go again, and also further south, as I've never been to the so much talked Amalfi Coast. With only 4 items to pack, I suppose I'd need my passport, good walking shoes (buying new ones there is a bad idea, you have to have worn them for a while), my camera, and my favourite scarf which goes with every outfit and serves many purposes :-) |
Hi Bob,
I would take my passport. I could spend the whole 10000E in Paris in under a week. This reminds me of a real life story: Back in the early 60's, Craig Claiborne bid on an all-expense paid weekend in Paris at a charity auction. Trip included air fare, hotel and dinner at Tour d'Argent. He bid $3000. Which was considered extremely high in those days. After consulting with the chef and sommelier for about 6 mos, he went. The bill for dinner, with wine and brandy came to $6000. |
my toothbrush :D

passport, credit cards, comfy shoes and underwear.
|
I'd go to Prague because I haven't been there since 1983, and it was So beautiful even back then when everything was covered in soot. I'd love to see its transformation - and those euros would go farther there than in some of my other favorite cities.
I'd bring my passport, my ATM card, my VISA, and my glasses. I'm sure I could purchase everything else I'd need once there. |
I remember the show somewhat. I would choose Spain and I would take my bathing suit and credit card because I would surely go over my $1,000 a day limit.
|
Hmmm! Interesting that no one has said presriptions yet. My celebrex would be #2 after my passport.
|
Fun question! I'd bring my passport, ATM and credit cards, because I'd spend my $1000 a day on a room at the Villa San Michele in Florence. Ahhhh, Florence....

Unfortunately, but I was just a kid. Since I am already wearing comfortable shoes, my credit cards and ATM are in my wallet in my back pocket, my underwear is clean and will remain so until I buy new ones (well, I hope so), this is what I will bring on my flight to Firenze (then rent a car and on to Tuscany and Umbria for 10 days) 1) Passport 2) IPOD with Charger (it's a long flight, you know) 3) My folder with all my Umbria/Tuscany info I have gathered for 2005 Tuscany/Umbria trip. 4) A magnum of champagne for Tracy and me to drink in the limo on the way to the airport to toast our good fortune (fortunately, LAX in traffic will allow us to finish the magnum). ((H)) |
Yes, wonderul, when a mil was a mil, real money. Now it's tough to find anyone who says their worth is less than a mil, even folks in a service industry make that claim.

After stretching my allotted 3 minutes to the breaking point, I decided on seeing the fjords of Norway. Pragmatist that I am, I decided that if the flight is paid for, it's going to be one that I'd hate having to afford on my own. I understand the $10K would come in especially handy. Coming along for the ride: The new camera rig, passport, ATM card and not least, of course, my lovely wife. I'm already wearing the comfortable shoes and a smile. |
curling iron, extension cord, hair dryer, and passport. :-)
Just kidding. I'd only worry about my passport. I can buy everything else there (including a gigilo)! And there would start in Italy and then just go where my credit card took me. |
1) Beaner, my stuffed pig that I sleep with (no, that's not my husband)
2) Tylenol 3 prescription 3) Passport 4) Camera Destination - Somewhere in Germany, since that is where we are planning for our next trip. Peace. Robyn |
That would certainly be dreamy! Is the one destination a city or country? :) I'd have to choose Budapest since that's next on my planning list.
I'd take along my husband, my passport and...hmmm...I think I only need two things since I can buy everything else there! |
Statia, You forgot your friend, Grasshopper!

I'll go to Sicily.
Passport, walking shoes (I'm barefoot now so can't go like this), prescription meds, camera. If you're giving me $10,000, I won't need my credit card or ATM card. I'll also cheat by writing on the inside of my arm a few phone numbers of people I'd like to visit. Toothbrushes, underwear, pens, paper, dictionaries, jackets, and other little necessities are all available in Sicily. |
