The Millau Bridge
Some friends asked me to show them my photos but I asked them to cut and paste not click on the link. They say it doesn't work but it does for me?

Both clicking and copy/pasting only sent me to my Hotmail account, not to the Millau viaduct!

Nice Cigalechanta; we're planning to drive over the bridge in July. Any nice places for lunch nearby? Where's the market that's in your pictures?
|
Crossing over the viaduct at Millau will not provide you with any sensational views. However, after you have crossed it, take the first turnoff to the town of Millau situated on the banks of the Tarn below the viaduct. A good lunch can be had there, followed by a drive on the road to Albi which goes UNDER the viaduct, and gives a much better idea of its size. There are plenty of places to stop for sightseeing there: On the other hand, you are not allowed to stop ON the viaduct. Further, while the roads leading to the viaduct are toll-free, there is a toll to cross the structure. (About €5?)

Hi C,
Clicking on your link brought me back to this thread. Copying and pasting brought me to hotmail login. ((I)) |
tulips, the market is in wonderful Uzés.
If you send me your email, I'll try to send the bridge album(5 photos) from my Kodak album. I'm at hotmail. |
I'll have to rethink our plan, since there's the Grand Prix near where we were planning to stay before Millau, and can't find a hotel. Thank you for the usefull info though!

I agree that the best view of the bridge is from a distance and actually not over it. Hence, could someone recommend a good vantage point to take in that view? We will be driving from the direction of Narbonne.
Thx. s |

After you cross the bridge there is an exit for a viewing area and museum about the bridge. Lots of good photo opps there. Plus tourist info, gift shop etc.

The best view of the bridge may not be while driving on it but I still remember the thrill of driving over that thing. It's something between a musical instrument and a tight rope. I could kick myself for not going to see it again the last time I was in the south of France. Truly visceral architecture and engineering.

If you are ever in La Rochelle, my favorite bridge is there that takes you to the ile de Re.

That is a pretty bridge, cc. It looks like a bridge that's going to take you away to someplace special. Fragile and flexible at the same time.
