"The Fork" for Reservations in Paris

Hi we will be in Paris the last weekend of this month. Has anyone used this reservation site? Did you have a good experience? It has been helpful sorting what is open over a weekend in August. It appears to be like "open table" here in the states Just wondering how the service is when using a coupon or discount. Thanks

I used la fourchette (i.e. the fork) twice while in Paris recently, and it worked nicely. No problems whatsoever. I didn't use a coupon however - so can't comment on that part of it. It didn't eliminate our need to make phone reservations, as not all restaurants are using it yet, but it made a dent!

I haven't used it in Paris but did use it twice in Reims and it worked fine. One restaurant had an offer of free champagne and it was automatically brought to our table. My only issue is that the restaurant selection on la fourchette is limited.

I did use it last year. I made a reservation with a 40% discount and it was automatically discounted. Glad I saw thisost as I'd forgotten about La Fourchette.com and will use it again this October.

Did use it in Paris. They said we did have the reservation. When we checked at the restaurant a few days earlier as we were passing by---no reservation. The restaurant said they did not honor any internet reservations. Luckily we had checked and were able to get in as planned. Wouldn't count on it again.

Which restaurant was this, TPAYT?

Thanks for the info - kja thanks for the link didn't use the right keywords when I searched If we go this route I will double check when we get there

"Marco Polo" at 8 Rue de Conde---Yes, it's Italian but it's a must for us on every trip.

TPAYT Aug 7th, 2012 06:11 AM

BTW, we even had a paper with a confirmation # on it. I'd have to blame the restaurant, but why did The Fork not know this? Marco Polo is very busy and you need a reservation. Most of the time we are surrounded by French speaking diners and once we sat next to a famous newscaster who was constantly being interupted with good wishes from his fans---no idea who he was though.

We love the food and are always welcomed warmly as if they know us---haha.

Marco Polo on Rue de Conde is not listed on LaFourchette. Perhaps the restaurant ended its affiliation with LaFourchette after you made your reservation?

I have used laFourchette several times and my reservation has always been honored. (The only exception was the one time I cancelled a reservation at the last minute and rebooked for a different time the same evening; next time I would just call the restaurant to change the time.)

When I've had a discount, it has always been applied without any problem.

In my experience, the customer reviews are generally accurate and the site's search functions work well.

Great tip. But....

All the reservations on my first few searches offer reservations (Paris) at 9:00 PM or later. Some at 10:30.

I know dining late is fashionable, but if I would prefer to eat at 7:30, is this site just not for me? Or, if one goes to click through to make a reservation, do they offer earlier ones?

Christina Aug 7th, 2012 12:14 PM

That's very odd as it seems to me most restaurants open at 7:30 and they would be thrilled to have you eat then and get out before the late diners.

I think you are doing something wrong such as not even moving the box options that give you times, as I just checked and it has times all day long, and I wasn't even looking for any particular restaurant by name. I just asked for some resaurant in Montparnasse on some hypthetical date in Sept for 7:30 and it gave me four pages of choices.

We used this website recently and reserved tables at 7:00 or 8:00pm. It was so easy to use and we received a discount or a bottle of wine as specials which we weren't aware of at booking. Hoghly recommended.

I made a reservation at Le Reminet (3 rue des Grands Degrés, Paris 5) through this website last May. My reservation was honoured, we had a delicious candlelit dinner and received a 40% discount. It all went very smoothly.

Thanks for your responses. I'll plan to use this next month.

TPAYT Aug 8th, 2012 06:33 AM

travginny---thanks for the tip on Le Reminet. I read the TA reviews and it looks like a place we would like. I think we'll try it in Sept.

Where did you sit? Upstairs, downstairs, or outside? Given the choice, where would you sit on your next visit?

I have never used the fork before and a little confused. When the site states: 40% off sur la carte, does that mean when we are party of two that we will get 40% one main course or off two main course?
thanks

Sarastro Sep 5th, 2012 05:14 AM

Typically, what la Fourchette (or the fork) offers is choices from la carte at menu prices. In other words it expands what the typical menu might offer.

Effectively, you do not necessarily save money as the menu prices are already approximately 40% less than prices on la carte.

Hopefully, everyone knows the difference between le menu and la carte.

BarbLawrence Sep 5th, 2012 05:25 AM

Sorry, I still do not understand
I am looking at Pinxo Tuileries - it states 40% map,

On the page it list price on MAP 48E
under chef suggestions it list monkfish for 25E

Any idea what dinner for 2 might cost us?
many thanks,
