The Falling Euro
The euro is down to $1.26.
Will you be upgrading to a 4* hotel? ((I)) |
Shhhh.....don't tell anyone, you'll jinx it. This can be our secret, ira.
:$ |
Speak for yourself, Ira..are you upgrading????????
|
>...are you upgrading????????<
Of course not. Fly cheap, sleep cheap, eat well. ((I)) |
I'm with Ira. Drink expensive wine, too! ;)
|
Shhhhhhhhhhh.
If I start paying less than $2 a gallon for gas, between those two I might go catatonic. |
and eat expensive chocolates . . .
|
Don't tell a soul. I'm leaving tomorrow.

ira... I don't know if you have seen my posts to http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34617502 or not... but I think that what we have planned is the embodiment of this motto, quite nicely. See also http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34620593 Best wishes, Rex |
Jules4je7 - Come visit beautiful New Jersey. Gas is 197.9 and they pump it for you!!!
|
Zeus....
What exit? |
Do remember a week does not a trend make...sterling has dropped somewhat also down to roughly $1.83 interbank.
Maybe we'll see parity again...right! |

Whew, for a while there I thought I was going to have to economize! |
Just came back from a two week trip to Italia. Every time I withdrew money from an ATM (Bancomat) it cost a little less in US dollars. Paid in cash wherever I could. Still expensive though.
|
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, we leave Sunday. :)
|
Zeus - seriously - where?? (I know around Woodbridge/Perth Amboy, it's a lot cheaper for gas than around me (Princeton). I have to use premium, though, so anything under $2.20 gets me excited.... :-)

Hey rex,
I have followed your posts and have found no need to add anything to your well-planned visit. Hey zeus, Today, unleaded regular in Madison, Ga is $1.94. ((I)) |
The hotel we booked for one night in June in La Rochelle costs 111 euros. At the time of booking, that translated to $146.65. Today, the dollar-cost of the room is $139.91. I just don't know what I'll do with those "extra" seven dollars. On the other hand, we pre-paid for our room in Bordeaux in dollars, so no savings there if the dollar continues to climb (but no loss if it starts to drop). C'est la vie. |
I just figured, and that 4 cent drop will save me $50.00 total on my 5 night hotel stay in Rome! Those pennies really do add up.
|
Unleaded Regular is $2.59 in Seattle.
(Premium (which I have to use) is $2.79.) Wonder how there can be a $.65 difference in regular between Georgia and Washington State. |
I also paid $1.94 for regular today at the Westminster Wawa store. Shell was $1.95. Maryland.
State taxes make much of the difference between states, but that's only part of the story. My sister-in-law in another part of Maryland can't find anything under $2.10. |
What great news. We leave at the end of the month for London, Paris and Amsterdam. Any break in the exchange rate will be a relief. We'd probably spend in the same fashion, either way, but it would be nice to save a bit, too.
|
Of course it's dropping, we just got back a week ago. It was $1.37 when we left. However, I had prepaid a room or two last fall, when possibly it was lower.
|
RufusT - Westminster has the lowest gas prices in the area. We can't get better than $2.09 closer to Baltimore. Going toward D.C. it gets worse. We were up in your area for a ball game a few weeks ago and paid $1.95 at the new, huge Royal Farms! Too funny to see someone posting that's local. Howdy!
