THE dessert of Provence area?

What dessert do you think of when you think of Provence? For those of you that have visited Aix, Avignon, Arles, Orange, St. Remy, etc,.,. What is the one dessert that you feel is the dessert that you can only find there.

Cavaillon melon topped with Beaume de Venise.

Powell Jan 15th, 2004 08:52 AM

Yeah Cigalechanta!! Her recommendation
with perhaps a little sherbert in the melon. This is truly food of the gods!

Anthony (11 years in a row we have visited St. Remy. Hope to return this year. We stay in a pleasant budget hotel)

Melon au vin de noix..or tarte aux citrons, Tarte au figues de Solliès, Crême brulée...

That would have to be the chocolate ganache with whipped cream and shrimp crackers I had at les Ateliers de l'Image in St-Rémy in October - YUCK!

Unfortunately, it has obliterated all thoughts of good Provence desserts.

Betsy Jan 15th, 2004 09:19 AM

St. C, please tell me that the shrimp crackers were a mistake! :-(

cigalechanta Jan 15th, 2004 09:23 AM

St. C. That's an interesting hotel. Did you see the room in the tree?

StCirq Jan 15th, 2004 09:26 AM

Unfortunately, Betsy, they were definitely intended to be part of the dessert. Les Ateliers is a new Asian restaurant, and I guess they were trying to attain some sort of "fusion" thing with the desserts. Not a good idea.

This is the Hotel Les Atelierd de L'Image where she ate. If in St Remy, stop in. It's called that because it features an art gallery. Walk out back to the garden and you can see the room that has the living room built into a tree.

Sorry, Ateliers

The shrimp crackers sound cruel to the taste buds.

Where can I find a great recipe for these? I've been on Epicurious, but nothing has turned up. If you don't have suggestions then maybe I'll improvise. I was hoping to get away with finding something on line, so I dont have to buy a cookbook for one dessert.

cigalechanta Jan 15th, 2004 11:06 AM

here's the hotel above, email them for the recipe

Provence doesn't make me think of dessert, but two sweets/candies come to mind:
- Nougat de Montélimar
- Callissons d'Aix (marzipan candies)

Now im HUNGRY :-)

I'm not sure which dessert I ask the Hotel Les for. Is it Cavaillon melon topped with Beaume de Venise.

klondike Jan 15th, 2004 02:34 PM

les croissants ce Provence (little crescent cookies, not the bread) and melon with any local liqueur! MMM.
