Oh dln, we're on the same wave length, hoping against hope that the nasty duo won't come out on top. Talk about falling in an outhouse and coming out smelling like roses! They have all the luck. Was glad the clowns weren't last, but then again last night it didn't matter--another last place pair that weren't eliminated. Doesn't seem quite fair to me. Oh well, I'll be glued to the TV next Thursday.

I must say of all 4 ARs this has been the most disgusting - the things they have to do and eat. My stomach was turning when I saw the octipi and sticking to your teeth, no less? What the heck would they be doing in your stomach?
Took a guess that this stop wouldn't be an elimination, and kind of glad. Just like that last AR3, we'll have to wait till the last show. Still voting for the clowns! We'll see! |
I also love this show and my husband and I just got hooked on it this past season. Last night's episode was definitely disgusting with the octopus meal!!!! I thought I was watching FEAR FACTOR.... Love all the places they go.... I'm rooting for the clowns too, but I think Chip and Reichen will be tough competition... Until next week....
|
If they gave people unusual -- or, to us, disgusting -- things to eat simply to make them squirm, that's one thing. But, at least on this show, like Survivor, they give people things to eat that locals really eat...and I happen to find that fascinating. It just goes to show there's very little of the animal kingdom that we humans, somewhere, don't put in our mouths.
When we were in Vernazza, eating at Trattoria Gianni, the Italian man next to us ate the eyes of his fish. My girlfriend was fascinated by that so on our last night in Vernazza, when she ordered fish at Ristorante Belforte, she popped an eyeball into her mouth and prounounced it..."interesting." |
There's no way I could have eaten those octopi! I think I'd rather shatter my hand on the boards! (At least a fish eye doesn't squirm.) But Reichen and Chip are so supportive and good to each other. I really like them a lot. I like the clowns too. It would be galling to see Jon & Kelly win, except that it would be cool to have the one team with a woman on it beat out all the guys. I was so tense when they were swimming in that cold water, I was holding my breath! My husband and I figured that I would probably be the better one to do that, but he wasn't sure he could let me! That was a tough epidsode, for sure! Looking foward to next week. :)

When we were watching the show last night I told my boyfriend what my strategy would be for eating weird food in foreign lands:
To us, live squirmy octupi seem absolutely disgusting, but to them, it's normal. So I'd try to think of an American regional dish that *I* like, but which would be unusual and, could be considered gross to someone from Korea. The example I came up with was Chicken Fried Steak. A delicious southern concoction that, for those who have never had it before, could be considered kind of gross. (if you don't know what it is, it's browned chopped beef steak that's coated in a breading of seasoned flour and milk then deep fried. Most of the time it's covered in a white, creamy gravy that's made from mixing more milk and seasoned flour with the fat/drippings that are left over from browning the beef. It might sound kind of questionable, but I assure you it is DELICIOUS!! It is also, of course, not at all good for you . . . loaded w/ calories, saturated fat, etc.) So, anyway, I'd just tell myself that I was eating the Korean equivalent of Chicken Fried Steak . . . and hope that worked. I'd also make sure I had plenty of water nearby! Jennie :) |
Valuable travel skills: Driving a manual shift and reading a map!!!! I am sure if you are a seasoned traveler, you would never be chosen to be on AR.
Kelly and Jon are pitiful. Dr. Phil is on the TV talking about his "RElationship Resue". One thing he sees as a red flag for divorce is fights degenerating into name calling and humiliation. Boy!!! Kelly and Jon better get on the Dr. Phil Show after the Race.!! She was really nasty to Jon last night, until they won. Stay tuned!!! |
Go Clowns! I love this show too. Hope CBS continues it. Loved the winter shots of Vienna! And I also agree that this time around they have required the contestents to do too many dangerous things. (healthwise!)

I think they are trying to compete with all those grossed out shows. This is too bad because this show was great as it was at the beginning. I still like it, but I don't like the gross eating and the daring activities. Another show that I loved for its travel aspect and smart aspect was "The Mole". I loved the last season when they were in Italy most of the time. Too bad, it didn't last. |
I love this show as well. In reference to the more dangerous tasks they are doing....I read an article that interviewed the producers and they said that this time around the contestants were much more willing to do more outragous stunts than before. Because of this they adapted the road blocks/detours as they went along. The producer said that there was one task that even he would not have done but did not say what. I have been wondering what that was all season long.
My favorite teams were the gay couple from Miami. Loved how they used the hotel conceirge to book their travel etc. They didn't take anything too seriously. I also like the clowns this year. Loved the fraternity brothers from New York on the first season..Kevin and Drew! My complaint this year is that the teams are not respecting who gets to a place first. There is no honor system this time around. I guess that is the game but in past seasons that has not happened that I can remember. New epidsode tonight! |
Down to the wire! (Almost!) Is anybody's game tonight! My bet? The Married Guys are out tonight (guys not gays), although I am hoping John & Kelly get the boot. Anybody know where they are going tonight?
|
Bummer!!! I am very disappointed about the clowns being eliminated and so will everyone elso I know who watches this show!!! Too bad about the flight. I thought they had it in the bag!!!
Previews next week look interesting - someone flips their jeep!! |
Michelle Y: You're right - total bummer about the clowns!
They showed everyone with whom they dealt in other countries respect, something that Reichen and Chip clearly lack. My hubby and I cringed when they yelled at the Korean cab driver "Speak English or we won't pay you!" Yechh! The only team left to pull for, I guess, are the friends. We will stay tuned. |
I truly did hate to see the clowns get eliminated too. Nice guys and deserved to win (at least I'd hoped).
When I heard that bit with Chip screaming at the cab driver in Seoul, those two sunk right to the bottom of my list. That was sad. It kind of feels like politics now. It'll be more like rooting against, rather than for someone. The married guys though seem decent enough... mumble, mumble We were pretty excited to see them go to Australia though - although my wife, being a Melburnian, felt their choice of cities could have been made a bit hastily. ;) |
Ditto about the clowns! The only ones with class. That was disgusting about Chip yelling/mocking the Korean cab driver about not talking English. How would he feel if someone from Korea came here and yelled at him for not speaking Korean? What, was he supposed to miraculously learn to speak English so he could be paid??
Loved the scenes in Austrailia! The life-guards over there must be pretty skilled. Can't wait for next week. Go the non-Kelly/Jon, non-Chip/Reichen team! |
OH NO!!!! Not the clowns!!! I missed the show and did not tape it. Thanks for the update. Will have to try and find a friend who has the tape. I am truely disappointed that they were eliminated. I guess the good guys never finish first in that race. How disappointing!
|
Up until now, I like Chip & Reichen and was rooting for them, but tonight, I was also disgusted by the "speak English or we won't pay you" How ignorant of him! I think they need to learn to speak Korean or not win the race!!! :)
|
Didn't much care for the nasty comments running between Chip & Reichen and Kelly & Jon. What is it with them? I hope neither of those teams win it! I was sorry to see the clowns go, too. Such wonderful gracious men. You could only wish some of their class would rub off on those two sniveling vipers, Kelly and Jon.
|
There ain't no justice! The two nicest left and they get bumped, particularly after Chip and Reichen cheated and the 35 minute penalty hardly seemed appropriate. I thought they would be eliminated because of it and wished they had been, particularly after their no class behavior with the cab driver, among other things.
Must admit I won't be as interested as I had been with the Clowns gone, but I'll be there next week probably gnashing my teeth. All I can say now is GO FRIENDS! |
This is the only show that my DH and I are addicted to--have been since AR I. (Even though I swore at the end of the last one--when the whiny brat won--that I'd never watch it again!)
However, I must say that this time around the entire group was much less compelling than past groups. There was really no one that we pulled HARD for--clowns had our vote, though. Going into tonight's episode I didn't care WHO won as long as it wasn't Kelly and John. But the incident in the cab turned me off of Reichen and Chip completely. I looked at my DH and said "oh, God, they're ugly Americans after all!" Now that the sweet clowns are gone, guess my vote will go for the guys who are best friends. By the way, don't you think the woman they rescued in the ocean should get major props for her part? She was tossed around like a bag of cement :) |
