Vienna and Budapest, too long ago to remember but Prague:
OHH! Magical magical: 1. Climb up on the walls of the jewish cemetary late at night to take truly amazing photos of the stones at night. (And run as quick as you can when the police arrives). It was so beautyful, silent and totally scary. And quite a thrill when the police arrived. 2. We pretended to be in a James Bond movie, dressed up, and went to the casinos. Sleezy, untasty, and SOOO much fun. But you really must be able to "play a theater" to make it work. 3. Going to a bar in the new town, that was really only a grotto. On the outside it looked like a normal bar, and even the first floor looked normal. But you could go further and further down into the ground, small grotto's at each level. i think there was a total of 5 levels. I cant imagin what would be the outcome in a fire.. but totally magical! Can't remeber the name though. Classic:=) 4. We went on a random metro, and made the rules: now we will take this metro for 8 minutes. Then we go out, and we will pick the first eating facility at the right of the metro, and dine there, nomatter what it looks like. We were far off tourist track, to put it like that. The meal was awful, but the experience uniqe. We made friends with the owner and the regulars. They stopped drinking when we arrived, just in shock of tourist:) 3 |

Kappa,
Your photos of Prague are stunning! I leave for my three week Krakow/Vienna/Budapest/Prague/Munich/Rhein adventure in 14 days. The amateur photographer in me can hardly wait for the same photo opportunities. Thank you for sharing... I admired your entire album. |

Forgot to add about Prague : Somenone might have mentioned already but wake up early and visit Charles Bridge around 6:00 - 8:00 am (depending on winter/summer seasons) before the tourist crowd arrives.

Hi, Gabrielle,
thanks for starting this thread - though we've been to Prague and Budapest, we obviosuly missed a lot, plus we are planning atrip to Vienna, so this is good timing. Strangely, though we think we enjoyed Prague more than B'pest, I have more memorable moments from B'pest - the best fish soup we've ever tasted - at the sports bar on the main street opposite the Cathedral a fantastic night of hungarian music and dance at a hall hidden behind an anonymous street door, where in another part of the building lots of elderly hungarians were having dinner and doing the hokey cokey! seeing Beethoven's piano [surprisingly small] in the lizst museum. going to the opera - a brilliant performance of La Boheme at very reasonable prices going to the ?fine arts museum where for free there are wonderful pictures from all ove europe, including our two favourites - a very saucy painting of a couple with his hand down her blouse, and an even saucier one with her hand...well- you can work it out. In Prague - the charles Bridge in the morning before the tourists get up the museum of rambling in the basement of the cafe at the top of the hill in the old town a truly magical performance of Madame Butterfly with a japanese soprano and the sweetest little boy who stole the show. regards, ann |
Great pictures kappa
Prague Sit on a bench in the park on Kampa Island along the Vlatva river at dusk and watch the Old Town light up. Charles Bridge at dawn, at night, heck, any old time. Vienna Enjoying a carafe of the wonderful, fresh, unfiltered white wine and listening to the strolling violinist at the Heuriger Family Hirsch in Grinzing. A place that is the essence of gemutlichkeit. The musical instrument museum. Not "magical" but most certainly worth a visit if interested in such things. |
