Summer Footwear

I'm going to be in Paris for a week this summer - lots of walking around. I want a pair of sandals that look good - but comfortable. So far I've just found a bunch of dowdy looking things.

I will be there this sring/summer & was also wondering what sandals the French women wear. I presume they wear sandals in the summer.

ARCHE is a French company that makes very comfortable ( and expensive) sandala and shoes worn by French women.
Sold in big cities ( several stores in NY) and many places in Paris.
I love them .

Yeah...I wanna know, too.

suze Mar 1st, 2007 02:23 PM

Arche is expensive & Tthe least comfortable pair of sandals I have yet to own!

Marginal honey, Sorry ta make ya puke like that ;-)

Seriously, I bought them for a europe trip, they were a couple hundred bucks and literally fell apart in less than the two weeks I was traveling. True story.

of course some French women wear sandals in summer.

nbujic Mar 1st, 2007 03:21 PM

as in all discusions of this type, women have had different experiences with the same product.
I can wear Mephisto boots but not sandals. Noat kills me but so does Prada !) .
All you can do is go to a large dep. store or a mall or...
try a bunch of sandals and pick what feels right ( fit, price, comfort e.t.c..)

Well, everyone's different. I personally can't stand wearing sandals in any big city in the summertime. Maybe it's just me, but at the end of the day my feet are filthy. Something nice and strappy for the evening, maybe, but chugging around on the pavement all day in a city with sandals just doesn't work for me.

d'accord, St Cirq!

marginal_margiela~~~ You want to do something useful around here, get yourself on down to that thread where they're talking about rolling up their pants!!! Not that's just plain scary.

nytraveler Mar 1st, 2007 04:26 PM

And not only that - who wants to stub a bare toe on any of the cobblestone streets or uneven stairways in some of the older buildings. Sandals are fine for the beach - but nice, cute comfy walking show is much safer - and more practical for a city - esp in the rain.

jody Mar 1st, 2007 04:33 PM

And we all know about Paris dog poop..nothing like that will ooze thru my toes!!!!!!

Just kidding!

BTilke Mar 1st, 2007 04:35 PM

I don't like open sandals either for city wear in the summer. I'm always afraid of catching my toe on something or who knows, any of a zillion catastrophes.

I do have two pair of Stuart Weitzman open back slip ons (slides? is that what they're called, I never get the lingo right), one pair in black and the other in cream. Kind of faux snakeskin with these little square (fake) topaz jewel thingies on the top. They're comfortable, I can wear them for hours and my toes are protected. I think they sell them in the U.S. at Needless Markup. Or Saks, I forget which (I got mine in London at Pinet's).

Cole Haan has some nice sandles that have nike running shoe type support built into the heel (but you cant really see it) you can just feel the comfort.
echo are comfortable. I walked all over Paris one summer. They are not the best looking but I just want to be comfortable and enjoy my touring.
