Hi,
The place we stayed, the Pension Alpenrose, is about a 15 minute walk from the train station. Sorry, it's the only place we stayed in Zell am See. www.pension-alpenrose.com/ Paul |
I think you will have a difficult time finding accommodations for a family of 4 at the budget you provided.
We also stay at the lovely Hotel Schernthaner Hotel in St. Gilgen. We recently paid E82 for a double room. While they don't have any family rooms, they do have two apartments that would accommodate 4 people. http://www.hotel-schernthaner.at/sei...h/preise_e.htm There is no train service to St. Gilgen (or St. Wolfgang) but it is about a one hour bus ride from Salzburg. Once there, you can take a boat across the lake to St. Wolfgang and then a steam train up to Schafberg Mountain. Amazing 360 degree views from the top. http://www.schafbergbahn.at/media/sb...er_2011_en.pdf There is also a funicular in St. Gilgen that goes up to Zwölferhorn. http://www.12erhorn.at/ http://euroalps.eu/countries/austria...st__gilgen.htm |
Dear Fodorites,
Thanks for the info. Please confirm if we can go to the Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves from Zell Am See. Kind regards, SKPKCP11 |
Thanks Fodorites. But please can some advise if we can do the Eisriesenwelt Ice Caves from Zell Am See.
Also, which hotel is better Villa Klothilde v/s Pension Alpenrose in Zell Am See (remember we have no car so would prefer something within easy walking distance for our evening meals). Also, Leopoldhof v/s Hupfmuhle which one to opt for in St. Wolfgang in case we decide to stay. Any other conveniently located stay recommendations are welcome. Kind regards, SKPKCP11 |
Hi,
The Pension Alpenrose is about a 5 or so minute walk to the old town pedestrian zone of Zell am See. Here you'll find restaurants, cafe', shops, a small supermarket, etc. Paul |
pja1-The Pension Alpenrose looks good to me. You can't beat the prices! Is breakfast included?
|
Hi scatcat,
Yes, buffet breakfast is included. Actually, it is a very good one at that! One of the best we've come across. Mind you it's not a "luxury" type place... our room was a bit small, but it was very clean and comfortable. It's hard to beat for the price. We would stay there again. Paul |
Thanks Paul. It looks perfect for me. I'm planning to be there in June 2012.

You can visit the Eisriesenwelt Caves from Zell am See. Take the train to Werfen, then a special bus to the caves (followed by a lot of uphill hiking and a cable car ride).
While in Werfen, you will not want to miss Burg Hohenwerfen. |
