St Cirq Lapopie Hotel

We plan to drive from Albi to St Cirq and overnight there if possible. Are there any hotels in this town besides Auberge du Sombral? I just read that Pelissaria has closed. Any other suggestions for something close? We'd like to see this town en route to Pech Merle and Rocamadour.

Unfortunately, Pelissaria is closed although if one was to come with a whole family and wanted to rent the entire hotel, this is still possible. After more than 40 years in hospitality business, super gracious Madame finally retired. We were lucky enough to stay at the Pelissaria last year. But, this is neither her, nor there..

Is it that Sombral is not available? If it is, I would not hesitate staying there. We did not see rooms but had dinner there one evening and, if service in the restaurant is any indication of an overall quality, I would pick this place without hesitation.

BTW, just a fantastic village with amazing views.

Well, we're staying at a B&B in the neighboring town of Cabrerets (closer to Pech Merle) next summer. Obviously, I haven't been there yet, but it's received terrific reviews on Trip Advisor and the owners have been great to deal with so far. I understand dinner is also an option and that it is quite good. -- You go first and report back!

The B&B is called Un Jardin dans la Falaise (A Garden in the Cliff). I believe a few other Fodorites have stayed there, as well, so you might try searching the threads on this forum.

Why do you not want to stay at Auberge du Sombral? I stayed there for one night and it was nice.

Thanks for replies.

I don't have any objection to Auberge du Sombral. It looks very nice. I am just curious what else might be available in case it is booked during the time we plan to be there. Just looking for a backup.

Mimipam: We are going to be doing similar itinerary that you had done. Loved your trip report.

sap: Thanks for info on B&B. It looks great. We are still in initial planning phase of our trip. Still trying to decide whether to go in June or Sept. I am going to track the weather in Sept to see what it's like this year.

Which may give no indication of what it will be like next year.

Stu
I have your Dordogne itinerary and saw your comments on your experience in both June and Sept so trying to decide which month would likely be best. I do realize that this year's weather may have no indication of what next year's will be like. Weather patterns seem to be crazy this year. We are tending towards June.

Hi Winnick we were in The Dordodogne last October and found the weather surprisingly good and the autumn colours were starting to appear. I am sure in September the weather would be great and the crowds small. We had an absolutely wonderful time and would go back at that time again. Sunny days, blue skys.

We also visited 2 caves Lascaux 11 and Font de Gaume and leased 2 Renault cars. I have written a trip report about our travels which may be of help.

Happy planning!

Aussie: Thanks, I have your wonderful trip report. We have always had good weather in Sept when visiting Italy and after reading your report I was trying to decide between June & Sept for our trip to Dordogne. We were in Provence in June and had mostly good weather.
