Robyn that was so neat. I could not believe it was that easy to read. Larry, I have noticed how that spell checker works. I am determined not to let it stop me from posting. I can hardly type, and am not the greatest in spelling.

I always thought I had a chronic case of typoglycemia. It's low blood sugar that causes my brain and fingers to work out of sync....I am sure of it. I tried that excuse in college. They did not "buy" it.

To DSM22

When I was a kid I could spell anything. Now that I'm old I've developed the dreaded CRS disease. It's a memory loss syndrone but then if you are over 55 you know all about it or you soon will.

My Grandfather a few years ago scared the bejeebers out of me. He told me that he just came home from the doctors. When I asked him how his appointment went he said, "Not so good."

"Why? Are you okay?" I sputtered.

He replied, "I was diagnosed with CRS honey, there is nothing that they can do."

Fighting back tears, I asked, "What is CRS, gramps?"

He replied, "Can't Remember S@!T"

I wanted to kill him.

True story!!

I figure this slowed me down on comprehension about 30%. There is some merit to that study.

But then, we all receive emails at work like that, don't we?

I've not seen any forums with a spellchecker...seems like it would slow things down even more if it were added.

How come people who don't think correct spelling and grammar are not important get huffy when you mispronounce their names?

the only problem with using Word first (which I do when writing longer reports b/c I like to save them on my hard drive) is that a cut and paste here tends to turn the apostrophes into ? and sometimes the - into ?

it's a pain in the tuckus, but if you want to keep a document for yourself I like that better than typing it into this little screen then cutting and pasting it to Word - you can see what you wrote more easily as you are writing it.

Flygirl, see my earlier reply to Eloise. Try turning off autocorrect in Word before writing the report to copy here. There is actually a more complicated procedure which Indytravel explained to me a year ago that doesn't involve turning off all of autocorrect, but I don't remember the details. Since I've done this, I can copy from Word with no renegade apostrophes.

If you change the format to "Text only" it works.

flygirl Apr 2nd, 2005 06:23 AM

Nikki, whoops, you're right. I tend to read the first few replies then just plunge right in. thanks!

cigalechanta Apr 2nd, 2005 07:23 AM

I don't even know where those are.

dsm22 Apr 2nd, 2005 02:34 PM

Thank you ira, I think I am blushing.

You touched on something I have wondered about for a long time. Especially in this day and age where no one spells their names the way they used to. How are you supposed to know how to pronounce some of these names??

Never mind the challenge of spelling them the creative way that the doting new parental units have decided to.

I want to know if they know how much their poor kids are going to get picked on?

Sue_xx_yy May 23rd, 2005 04:33 PM

Artstuff, that was fascinating.

I note, though, that the 'rseerach' team seems to have scrambled the order only of words that were otherwise spelt correctly with respect to letter content. This is significant since a lot of spelling/typo errors involve content changes such as letter substitutions, or the addition of letters where none are required. (I'd even venture to say the majority of errors are content errors, notwithstanding the common breakage of the i-before-e-except-after-c rule.)

And which 4totravel posted this??

LoveItaly May 23rd, 2005 09:26 PM

LOL Scarlett, I think that 4totravel would not know which one they are, so how could we?
