Leslie: count me in!

sounds like a fine tentative plan and has the makings of a very successful event

If you're talking about 8:47, it was an attempt at topping. Next time i'll just be blunt and say "topping," OK? Really, you're reading too much into nothing.

Since there seems to be enough interest for a GTG in the Boston area, please let me know, if the GTG should be in Boston, Framingham, Burlington, Newton, Dedham, or Worcester. Please state which town you live closest too, so you don't have to divulge any personal information, also please state whether a Saturday or Sunday afternoon or evening is better, and select a few dates in either January or February. Let's not select the weekends of the Super Bowl, Martin Luther King Day or Presidents' Weekend, as I would think that for those weekends, some of you have already made party plans or might be off to the slopes to ski. If you would prefer to email me, that's fine, and I'll compile a list. If you want to email me, please let me know if it would be okay to add your name to a GTG mailing list just for the purpose of this event. Also include whether you will be coming alone or with a spouse/significant other/friend. Also, in regards to restaurants, let me know if you prefer Chinese or Italian food, as it will be easier to select a restaurant.

As an alternative suggestion, I'd be open to inviting all of you to my home, and we can arrange a pot luck event, with each person bringing a dish to sample -- maybe we could each make a different European dish and have a buffet. This might be a less expensive alternative than going to a restaurant.

I will add here that I live in Framingham and that it is easy to get to my home.

Thanks for participating.

Leslie

Thanks to all of you that have already responded by email to me about the GTG in the Boston area. So far, most of the responses have been east of Route 128, although some have been out as far as Route 495. However, a lot of the responses are from people that only have access to the MBTA, so let's plan on having this at a restaurant in Boston. My suggestion for a restaurant is Maggiano's Little Italy, at 4 Columbus Avenue in Boston, which is centrally located to public transportation and is also easily accessible to the Southeast Expressway and Massachusetts Turnpike. The restaurant is just outside of the theatre district and is across the street from the Park Plaza, Massachusetts Transportation Building, and Raddison Hotel at 57 Stuart Street. For those of you driving into Boston, there is off-street parking and a parking garage. If you would like to look at the menu, the web site is www.maggianos.com -- now all we have to do is pick a date in January or February. How about either lunch on a Saturday or Sunday? If the GTG is larger than 12 Fodorites, we can arrange for a banquet room and order from the banquet menu, otherwise we'll eat in one of the dining rooms and order from the family style menu. Although the meals are served family style, the food never runs out. Everyone I know that has eaten at this restaurant has raved about it. Of course, meeting at Maggiano's is just a suggestion for a restaurant, but if anyone else knows of a better restaurant that is well located in Boston, please let me know.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Leslie

Leslie, I live in Framingham too (how funny), and am agreeable to anything. Sunday, Jan 27th is bad for me.

I'd suggest making an e-invite with everyone's e-mails and just adding people to it to see who can/cannot make a certain date.

Thanks for arranging this!

This is the site that Elaine used when organizing the NYC GTG:
http://www.evite.com/homepage?redirect=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.evite.com%2F

It seemed to work pretty well.

rebecca Dec 26th, 2001 02:31 PM

Sounds great...
just post a likely date and I think I'm in! : )

Leslie Dec 26th, 2001 03:13 PM

There seems to be enough interest in a GTG, but no one has given me an alternate suggestion for a restaurant, other than the one I suggested, Maggiano's Little Italy.

So, how about 1pm on a Sunday -- here are the choices of dates: January 27, February 3 or 24th. Please state your date preferences in order, and also state if you can't attend on a particular date. Majority rules.

Either post your preference here or email me. I'll then create an e-vite (thanks to whoever suggested it). If you aren't leaving a real email address here at Fodor's please email me directly. I'll email the directions to the restaurant in the e-vite.

Any other suggestions for making this GTG a success are appreciated.
