South Kensington Hotel Under $150 USD
 

I've done some searches here, but the search engine being what it is, I'm not finding what I am looking for. Can someone make a suggestion for a South Kensington Hotel, under $150 USD per night pre-taxes (yes, I know this is LOW especially for S.K, but bear with me). I would like a small, tourist class hotel, not interested in a chain hotel, I don't need a room big enough for a barn dance, and I don't care if the hotel has a lift or not. I do not want grungy, and I would like an en-suite bath. I am aware of Priceline and use it all the time for NYC, however for what I am putting together here it won't work. Any ideas?

What are you "putting together here"? It would help if you told us which date range you were going in.

I have had good luck with www.hotel-assist.com. I stayed at the Rembrandt hotel, which is in Knightsbridge/South Kensington. Very nice 4 star hotel.

I like this website because you can search by price or neighborhood. They have monthly specials.

Date range isn't too crucial yet (yes I know rates change with travel season, but at this point, it's the "type" of hotel that I am looking for that is of interest.) Thanks for the website info, I appreciate it and I'll check it out.

Have you tried the Millennium Baileys? Also, The Gainsborough and The Gallery are having winter specials, www.eeh.co.uk. You don't say what time of year you are going.

Try looking at the web site londontown.com or hotel-assist.com. they have moderate hotels in all parts of London.

Park International Hotel. It is only a couple hundred yards from Gloucester Road Station which has three tube stops. I stayed there 2 years ago and again this spring.

This April I paid £41.13/night including tax. My single was small but had plenty of features: AC, ensuite, refrigerator, hairdryer, color TV, coffee pot, trouser press, telephone and safe.

www.parkinternational.com The online reservation system makes it easy to compare room rates for various nights and room. They responded quickly to my emails and even have a toll free number good from the US.

We are going to London around Xmas time with our 2 teenagers and wanted to find 2 rooms In South Kensington. Long story short, I got 2 rooms at the Holiday Inn Forum across the street from the Gloucester tube station for $75/night/each on Priceline. Granted this may not be charming, but we are willing to forgo that for 2 bathrooms. If you look at Biddingfortravel.com website, you can see what others have paid for the area and which hotels.

We stayed at the Cranley gardens hotel last APril. We booked 2 interconnected rooms (family of 4). One room was a twin, the other a double. We paid 89GBP per room which may be a bit higher than $150. You can check their website www.cranleygardenshotel.com.

JamilaZ, did you really get the Rembrandt for less than $150? Just curious b/c we paid way over that in 2000 for a room there. It was a great hotel, but not inexpensive.

Check Londontown.com. Often you can get Millenium Baileys or Radisson Edwardian for that. Both are good options.

grandmere, I just put some dates in May in the hotel-assist.com website, and got the Rembrandt for 198 USD plus change a night.

The site was interesting, and I might use it again, but when I searched for S. Ken, nearly every hotel that came up was nowhere in that neighborhood. Many of them were in Bayswater, Paddington, etc, with many in Earl's Court.

Anyway, it is a site that I was unaware of, and probably worth saving for future reference.

Keith - I went to the website for the Park International and the prices I got were £78 PLUS tax - or about twice what you paid. I tried dates in Feb, March and April. Do you think it's likely they really raised their prices by that much or did you do something special to get that price. I am also looking for a single room. And about £50 is what I'd like to pay.

I paid about the same amount in both March, 2002 & April, 2004. I was happy with the Park International for what I paid, but I wouldn't pay £78 plus tax.

I just looked at their website again and if you click "online specials" instead of "online reservations" they are showing lower rates. But they currently only have specials through the end of this year.

They were still more than I paid this spring, but I just checked for a stay in mid December and the singles started at £35 plus tax.

Since they have a toll free number, you might give them a call during UK business hours and see if they can give you a better deal. Tell them that I sent you:-)

Keith - I love the type of building of the Park International, and the location is exactly what I wanted. I found the "specials" rate - very reasonable! Looks like a nice, basic hotel without being fussy. Thanks!

Grandmere: I paid about $150 for a triple in Dec. 2000. It was a monthly special. I figured Margie was looking for a single or double, therefore would pay a lower rate.

All the prices listed on this thread are more than I want to pay.

Isabel - if you don't mind staying in the suburbs (20 min tube ride to Central London) the B&B I stay at is on a very quiet residential street 3 min walk from the tube. Single en suite with breakfast 30 GBP. She hasn't raised her price for years.
