m-kingdom is a Fodors poster with strong fashion opinions voiced regularly. nobody called anybody a fag hag. sheez.

Simone1 Sep 20th, 2005 11:00 AM

Do over! You are not sightseeing. I am sorry, can’t help you there.

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:04 AM

mariam, nobody is calling you anything bad. And I was TRYING to be funny with you asking you if your boyfriend's brother was available! I hope you have a wonderful time in Venice and I am sure you will look lovely no matter what you choose to wear.

mariam_m Sep 20th, 2005 11:14 AM

Oh I'm sorry. I was reacting to the snide posts that I received yesterday.
You have to admit that being called a kingdom insinuates queens if you don't know the difference. Don't hold it against me.

Although I will be there with many gay men as far as I know only my friend and I will be straight.

suze Sep 20th, 2005 11:22 AM

see the difference is I don't consider fag hag an insult, rather a term of endearment.

elaine Sep 20th, 2005 11:23 AM

I keep smiling about the caftans.
The gentlemen will be wearing Nehru jackets?

mariam_m Sep 20th, 2005 11:29 AM

I take fag hag as negative besides the fact that I don't want to be a hag of any type. I don't like the word fag but to each his own.

The men men will be free to wear caftans as well. The fact is my gentleman friend had the idea of a caftan, he bought me a few of them.

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:31 AM

"Although I will be there with many gay men as far as I know only my friend and I will be straight."

GIRL, you better be thinking Princess Grace and Jackie O!

suze Sep 20th, 2005 11:33 AM

If your boyfriend bought you the caftan, I'm not sure why the heck you're checking with us (a bunch of strangers, mostly female) about it.

Have you ever spent time with a group of gay men before? Do you have any gay friends? My thought is you may have a steep learning curve here, more important things than what to wear to be "sexy".

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:35 AM

suze, I was biting my lip on that one.

CheBird Sep 20th, 2005 11:41 AM

I'm still trying to get my arms around the fact that 55 is middle aged. Maybe it's a baby boomer thing, but that would mean your life span is 110 years. Hmm...

mariam_m Sep 20th, 2005 11:41 AM

He bought them for me but didn't mention wearing them overseas that is why I asked. He wears caftans himself.
No I haven't been around many gay men although I do think my hairdresser may be.

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:43 AM

Well, since your boyfriend seems to be so stylish, have you asked him for his advice on what to wear when visiting his brother? I think he will be able to guide you in the right direction.

suze Sep 20th, 2005 11:46 AM

I wish I could think of a way to be more helpful. I will simply and kindly say, I believe this may be a fairly shocking but eye-opening experience for you.

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:48 AM

coffee just came out my nose!

mariam_m Sep 20th, 2005 11:48 AM

You think 55 is past middle aged? Old aged?

I asked him and he said ask your girlfriends but they all wear golfing clothes and polo shirts and look very mannish in my opinion.

suze Sep 20th, 2005 11:50 AM

***omigod***

;-)

mariam_m Sep 20th, 2005 11:53 AM

Why? Don't straight men wear caftans? They are comfortable.

AnnieP Sep 20th, 2005 11:54 AM

I'm outtie!

suze Sep 20th, 2005 11:56 AM

<Don't straight men wear caftans?>

Since your boyfriend does you better hope the answer to this question is yes.
