Let me tell you about the &quot;no excess&quot; as provided by Economy Car Rentals as they explained it to me.

Rent the car through Economy Car Rentals. Pick up the car at the car company they place you with.

Decline the excess insurance offered by the car rental company when you pick up the car.
Use your Amex or which ever card you choose.

We were placed with Sixt in Portugal so I will use this example.

Sixt placed a hold on our credit card for the excess. That is, the rental with Sixt covered all of the
CDW except for a portion of damage costs. This is the excess.

If you have an accident, you submit the damage claim to Economy Car Rentals and they reimburse your credit card for the damage costs.

Actually, this works the same way if you used your credit card for the coverage. If you had an accident, you would submit the claim to the insurance part of the credit card and the insurance carrier your credit card uses would cover the damage and reimburse your card.

I called Economy because I didn't quite understand how this worked. When you pick up the car, the company will try to sell you excess insurance, but actually Economy Car Rntals is providing you with this coverage.

I printed up the rental agreement that Economy sent me so that I would know exactly what I would need to send them in case of an accident.

In short, Economy Car Rentals, the broker, would be providing the insurance, and just as we have done before, we would decline the CDW offered by Sixt, the car rental company. That's much clearer.

I just looked up the price for 8 days rental on the sixth web site. When I put in the pick-up place in France, Avignon TGV for May 1,2009 it states the station is closed for a bank holiday. I realise this is a major holiday in France but when I emailed the TGV train station this was their answer.

Yes, there will be rail service on the TGV from Paris to Avignon on May 1st.

Anyways, now I'm kinda scared, does anyone know if the Avignon station is opened for sure on May 1.

Rail service is different from car-rental agencies housed in the station. If the rental agency says it's closed, that's your answer, I suspect.

When I rented from Economy Rental Cars, you could have the car delivered to you for an extra fee. I believe they could also do it even if the office was closed or not during their normal operating hours. It just cost more. Our car ultimately came from Sixt with Economy being the broker

When we rented from Economycarrentals.com we rented a car for 8 days in the Czech Republic and the total was $261 USD we got a Mercedes &quot;A&quot; Class. The site you mentioned shows the same car but the price was 423 euros for the same amount of time so that's about $541 USD.

Hi All; I am just checking rentals for Croatia and find a big difference for the same car with these companies. Insurance is covered with 'no excess' with both companies. It's conceivable each company could place us with Sixt. For a Scoda Octavia, pick-up in Zagreb on June 1st and drop-off in Dubrovnik on June 10th, economycarrentals.com price is 623 euros [803 US]. But for economycarhire.com it is 312 pounds [492 US]. Help, am I correct in my math, or am I doing something wrong? THANKS Iris P.S. It seems like going direct to the Sixt web site their insurance is all inclusive too, but [with excess].

So far, so good: our rental was actually a tad less than the original amount; there was no additional charge for having a diesel; and the whole experience was hassle-free. The Sixt policy is that renters return the car with a full tank of gas, BTW.

but
you have to ask questions and know the questions you need to ask
for eg
we were told by sixt at the airport that if we went to montenegro and asked to pay extra insurance that sixt would reimburse us

upon arrival back at the airport we showed our receipt and were declined
we were supposed to inform sixt that we were intending to go to montenegro before we left

they didnt tell us that when we were picking up
so we lost a few euros
no big buck but still it makes you a little mad sometimes

another thing - make sure that when you get the car someone shows you how to work the damn thing
the manual had no english
this was nuts i thought - letting us out on the road with no idea how to even get the petrol cap off
there i was reading through the croatian instructions with a dictionary - great start

sixt was again the cheapest deal for norway - our next trip
but no sooner did OH inform me of their rates than the offer disappeared
and we have booked with hertz - a bit more money but we can cancel easily if a better deal comes up

otherwise id give sixt a go again- the regional branches can vary of course so you cant judge the whole company on our experience
