Very important, if you are planning get a rental car in the Seychelles.

DO NOT USE SIXT Seychelles,

the car we got from them was dangerous to drive and not road worthy.

After booking 3 days in advance, we arrived at Mahe airport, they had no clue we booked at the counter.

They then fished out a yellow Picanto from the back that was completely dented and scratched up. He said it was the best they had. We then drove off and then realised the car had no petrol and additionally did not have a hooter!!!!

Throughout our experience with SixT Seychelles we had an absolutely terrible experience. The owner event threatened to call the police if we don't pay in full. We are trying to put in a formal complaint with the local Taxi drivers association, but just in case you were thinking of using them DON'T.

Beasts bust the best

I travel frequently and I always rent cars during my trips overseas...But the worst company I have ever dealt with was SIXT.I booked a car from their Budapest airport in Hungary via email and asked for a GPS system as well.
Although I mentioned that I was driving to Austria and Germany, I found out later that the car has a builtin navi system without Austria and Germany maps included. So I returned the car to the airport and the night clerk was so unhelpful, same goes for the day clerk. So I ended up cancelling the trip altogether. I complained to their customer service dept. about the mistake, the bad service, the extra charges to my card, and about blocking amount in excess of what was mentioned on the rental agreement. But no one took the time to even respond to my emails...I haven't encountered such a bad customer service.

So Welcome folks to the new customer service standards laid out by Sixt.I'm hereby warning all fellow North Americans not to even approach Sixt for rentals as you will be extremely disappointed with their CS standards...

Cheers!

Frequent travelers have their own GPS
Frequent travelers dint cancel a trip for lack of GPS
Frequent travelers find solutions : paper maps ( yes ! ) or IPhone - which have maps.

Now I see you are warning your fellow North Americans. Being European I am not concerned. Phew.

(I honestly cannot imagine canceling a trip because there wasn't a GPS)

I would not rent from them again, used them in the past and if no issues than no problem, however if there is a problem, and the last time there was a small problem that ballooned into a major one, because you will not get the level of service and support that you will with Hertz or Europecar (used to be national) - I am a frequent traveler and always use a rental car to get from country to country or on excursions to Bruge or Italian hill towns...and thought I could deal with it - even tried to work with American Express but they used the language and distance barrier to block the fact they had not notified me about a change in my reservation and refused to deal with a 300E overcharge...unbelievable...never again and if you are careful about the contract and the deal is good - go ahead - but be forewarned...any issues and you will pay.

'It looks like they are all concern with their payments and profits.'

Like quite sound to me - being paid enables a company not to go bankrupt and being profitable keeps shareholders happy. That is called capitalism.

Customer satsifaction should come just after. If it doesn't, profits will decrease. I fear all rentals are run according to the same logic.

sparkchaser Feb 18th, 2016 02:38 AM

I've never had an issue with Sixt. YMMV but I have had success specifying make and model when I book online.

protip: windscreens, vandalism, and tires are almost never covered.

Your rant carries very little weight. Sorry dude.

There are many insurance companies on the market which offer protection against all of this.

Yes there are. And did you use one?

Odin Jun 3rd, 2016 09:17 AM

Since the rental price includes basic CDW (according to www.sixt.com), I wonder how you can decline it when there is no option to decline it.

Whathello Jun 3rd, 2016 01:02 PM

And you'll get the same wit another rental. Just hold your ground. I had to sign papers saying that I was negligent in not taking the insurance those guys wanted... Yet I was covered by my on-line contract. Part of the game. And they can take whatever hold on my Amex.

Your fault for not taking pics of the car before and after.

Lesson learned. Sorry it had to be such and expensive lesson though.

Bad experience in Sixt Nürnberg

In short, I have paid twice the same car rental. First, via Ryanair car Hire. Next, via Sixt. Sixt gave me the wrong information and has done nothing to solve the problem.
In this case the clerk in Nürnberg Frankenstrasse said he could not use my Ryanair car Hire booking (already paid), so made me pay again. He promised the next day I would be refunded as the double reservation would get sorted... more than two weeks later (4 calls, several tickets and mails) I still have not gotten my money back.
You can always argue I was too naive to trust the Sixt employee. It was 1 am in the morning, I had my 4-children family with me, so I had not much room to argue. Anyway this only makes things worse in my eyes.

I have to say in the past I had good experiences with Sixt but this is certainly my last time with them.

Oh boy after reading these reviews I feel we got lucky. We rented an automatic from Sixt this past July in Strasbourg and returned the car in Geneva airport (French side) with no issues. Agents we nice on both ends. They upgraded the car category because we needed Gps with no increase in base cost. They gave us a detailed printout of all recorded dents/scratches on the car from previous renters which we compared against the car body and appeared accurate. In addition, to be safe we took a video of the car on the phone to record any previous damage prior to exiting the parking lot.
In any case, its a shame that renting a car comes with a risk that you end up paying more due to unscrupulous agents/agencies.

A few days ago, I was refunded (the first payment in this case), so the problem is now solved. I just hope next time a voucher is correctly taken or if there is any error, the company is able to solve it without so much hassle.

Soooo -- you registered to post a complaint . . . re a problem that was cleared up in short order. (Me personally -- I'd never trust Ryan Air for almost anything)

>>In any case, its a shame that renting a car comes with a risk that you end up paying more due to unscrupulous agents/agencies.<<

One payment was though the airline and one was through Sixt. Doesn't sound like either was 'unscrupulous' but simply a 'disconnect' that has been fixed.

No one says Sixt is perfect but they are as good as any of the major rental companies. As with most of them -- it is usually problems with specific locations or franchises, not the company as a whole.
