Sigh..Flight Cancelled to CDG Today
 

Our suitcases are by the door ready to go and American calls to let me know the flight is cancelled. Apparently weather at CDG, but hello?! we'll be arriving tomorrow. United didn't cancel their flight out of ORD tonight, only delayed an hour. I am fairly convinced that AA is combining our flight with tomorrow's because today's flight was empty, only about 70 seats booked. Sigh.....the joys of air travel :)

That is a shame and I think that you are right in your assessment of the real reason for the cancellation. Did you ask them to rebook you on the UA flt that *is* going?

well we are traveling with our 2 year old son so my bigger nightmare would be getting to the airport and then having United delay that one further. Oh well. I just hate when this happens.

Actually, CDG will be closed until 10:00 A.M. tomorrow (local time) because of the high winds that are forecast. Since you would, I presume, be landing at 10:00 A.M. or a bit earlier, I think I understand the cancellation. United may get by with delaying by an hour, but it is a bit tricky predicting just when the winds will die down twelve hours in advance. That's one explanation, although there may be other mitigating factors (like how full the flight is), but it could be a very rough morning over Western Europe hunting for an open airport. Hope you get to Paris soon.

All airports in Paris are now closed, and will remain so till at least the middle of tomorrow morning.

There's not a cat in hell's chance the United flight will arrive on time. It's already admitted to being three (not, as in your erroneous post, one) hours late - and it's not taken off yet.

Do you normally make unwarranted allegations of sharp practice without spending a nanosecond checking your facts?

Oh, every travelers fear. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I just hope it means that's all the bad crap out of the way and you will have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for letting me vent everyone :) Fortunately we are staying for a month and have no set agenda so we won't be missing out on anything. Just always a 'buzz kill' when you are excited for a trip. On the plus side it will be 60 tomorrow in Chicago so we'll get to enjoy the weather for the day. FlannerUK..thanks for the character attack, good day to you as well. In the exciting world of travel facts change quickly and when I called United it was on a one hour delay. Of course, I now know that it likely won't be getting out at all.

A friend's flight to the UK was diverted last week due to weather , to AMsterdam and then he had to wait several hours in the airport until the UK airports were open again. I'd rather be at home in comfort than flying around in bad weather loking for a place to land. It's supposed to be really bad in France tomorrow. Hope the weather clears up for the rest of your trip.

Flanner, what an idiotic attack. Any moron knows airline schedules change from minute to minute and that a one-hour delay can become a two- and then three-hour delay while you're warming your claws up for another tirade on the keyboard.

yes better to enjoy a bottle of wine at home this evening that sitting at the airport or worse yet on a plane going nowhere. Fingers crossed we get out tomorrow.

flanneruk has it right. There is no need for JenG to accuse AA in this case. I was stuck in CDG on an NW flight for 3 hours thanks to fog in December.

Aéroports de Paris asks passengers not to go to the airport if their flight is scheduled after 8 p.m.



Météo France issued a warning of strong winds in Ile-de-France. Wind gusts could reach
110 kms per hour (55 knots) in the night and weaken on Tuesday at the beginning of the afternoon.

The French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) has hence decided, for safety reasons, to halt all flights in the Paris area from 8 p.m. today until tomorrow 10 a.m.
