Siena : Restaurant with country views?

Hi! I am looking for a country restaurant set in the tuscan countryside or with views of the tuscan countryside within a reasonable driving distance from Siena...

Thanks,
Sudhin

There's a very nice restaurant in Monterregioni (sp?).. a beautiful little walled town not far from Siena. You can walk to the end of the main street and look out over the beautiful countryside. Perhaps someone can provide the name I've forgotten -:) We arrived without reservations for lunch, it was pouring rain... in Sept. ..and there was a mob waiting to get in. So I'd try for reservations. First time we discovered Monterregioni ( we saw it from the road) we were able to drive right into the little town square. Now, one must park outside the walls and walk in.

Grandma,

Was it Il Pozzo??

Grandma Nov 29th, 2006 03:21 PM

Si, si !!! I think it's the only rest. in town... right?

Grandma,

There may be another one but it has the reputation for being the best...and it was!

Is an hour reasonable? If it is, the Ristoro di Lamole in the hills a little south of Greve is your spot. Nice views of the Chianti countryside and a delicious meal, all at a reasonable price. One of the most fantastic lunch experiences I have ever had.

Hi! I will look into both. If it is an amazing place I am willing to turn the ride there to a tour of the area??

Thanks,

Sudhin,

Il Pozzo is on the town square in Montereggioni...I don't recall any view because the little town is completely walled...after lunch, we walked outside the walls through the olive groves...that was very pretty.

Maitai, we ate at Lamole just a few weeks ago and loved it....hard to know which was better..the scenery or the food...

Hi everyone,

After a very exhausting day of internet searching I have here a list of places that have been reviewed(here or elsewhere), and seem to either have good views or are in a country setting.Obviously some are closer to Siena than others. Does anybody here have any opinions on any of these that might help narrow them down further before I have my wedding planner contact them for menu, price and other details?

Siena:Palazzo Ravizza restaurant(good views).
Siena:Villa Scacciapensiere restaurant(good views)
Murlo:Bosco della Spina
Castellina:Osteria Alla Piazza
Radda:Relais Fattoria Vignale
Radda:Le Vigne
Volpaia:La Bottega di Volpaia
Panzano:Il Vescovino
Panzano:Oltre il Giardino
Lamole:Ristoro di lamole
Greve:Taverna del Guerrino
Greve:La Cantinetta di Rignana
Montalcino:Boccondivino
Montalcino:Fattoria dei barbi
Montefellonico:La Costa

Thank you so much for all your comments and I am very grateful for your help.

Hi... I just realized a wedding planner was involved. Congratulations. We stayed at the Villa Sciacciapensiere a few years ago. It's a lovely old villa with beautiful grounds on the outskirts of Siena. (We took a taxi into the old city) We had many meals in the rest.... good food, but nothing memorable. The view from the dining room isn't much, but if you can incorporate the outside gardens it would be lovely. Now that I know your circumstance I don't think Il Pozzo would fit the bill.
We also had a lovely lunch with views over a valley at the rest. at Coltibuono (Tho now my memory is dim as to its exact location.) It's quite a large rest. and might be better suited to a wedding party.

Hi Grandma,

Does Scacciapensiere have the Siena hospital in its view?I am getting conflicting reviews about the place. Also that it is not in the countryside but instead in the suburbs of Siena?

Also our wedding party is only ~ 20 people. Hence I don't want a huge place..

Thanks,
Sudhin

Sudhin,

We recently had lunch at Poggio Antico in Montalcino. This might be very nice for a wedding.. out in the countryside a bit, upscale, pretty views, and a lovely approach with rows of cypress trees as you enter. They also have a well known winery on the grounds.

Thanks Traviata! I will look into it.

We were there in Oct. and didn't spend much time outside so I can't comment on the hospital. Yes, the hotel is not in the country, Around it is quite bustling..tho the hotel itself is very quiet. Wish I could come up with more info on Badia a Coltibuono. It was definitely in the country.

OK, so it doesn't meet your requirement of county views, but we loved the Cano E Gato, right in Sienna.

Perhaps the restaurant at Hotel Certosa di Maggiano
