sicily -last week April/first week may
 

So much to see in Sicily.. Does anyone have a 2 week itinerary they loved. We are not beach people.. but love food, history, hiking, art. Would love to include a cooking class/school.

We were in Sicily in April 2022 for a slightly shorter trip, 13 nights, going anti-clockwise from Palermo to Catania. Didn’t rent a car and got around by train or bus, which was quite easy, though we couldn’t visit some of the more remote sites. But we were perfectly happy with this taste of Sicily.

Our itinerary was:
- Palermo 5 nights, with a dau trip to Monreale
- Agrigento 1 night
- Ortigia 4 nights with a day trip to Noto
- Catania 3 nights.

We had been to Taormina and Etna on a previous visit, so skipped it this time. Found more than enough to do in Catania for two days before flying out to Naples the last morning.

I don’t have a trip report, but will be happy to answer any questions you may have. With a car you’ll be able to see and do much more, plenty of Sicily TRs to look for ideas.

Our itinerary was flew into Palermo, Trapani, Selinunte, Agrigento, Piazza Amerina, Noto, Ortigia, Taormina, flew out of Catania. Least favorite except for views was Taormina. Only one lodging we were not happy with, in Selinunte.

End of 2002 Trip - Naples and Rome

We have a trip in the works for early May, for 9 nights. This is our first trip to Sicily. Our (tentative) itinerary is:
3 nights Palermo
1 night Agrigento
3 night Ortigia
2 nights Taormina

We fly into Palermo and out of Catania. We'll rent a car when we leave Palermo. Use it to drive to Agrigento, then to Ortigia with stop in Ragusa (or should we do Piazza Armerina instead?). We'll return the car in Siracusa/Ortigia, and use bus/train after that.

I found it hard to nail down an itinerary, as there are so many places I'd love to see, but with 9 nights, I had to pick and choose.

unless you love the idea of driving a car, there is a great coach that travels from Palermo to Agrigento and saves you having to find a place to leave it.

We took the train, as suggested by a friend who’s from Catania, she said it had better views than the bus. Though the point is moot as I slept for most of the way, lol!

MFNYC in my opinion you would have an easier day of it going to Piazza Armerina rather than Ragusa, and a nicer drive.

The Villa Romana del Casale is stunning in its detail and completeness. We really enjoyed it, although there were a lot of students touring, but some here may have hints on timing for seeing the Villa without the hordes.
