Sicily

With only one week on Sicily - would anyone recommend making Palermo a 'must see' stop or can we just concentrate on eastern side of island?

We just got back from an extended trip of Sicily. IF you only have one week, I would suggest Taormina and Ortygia, which is the old (and most interesting part of Syracusa). Lucky you!

I was never a big fan of Palermo, but I said that once on this sight and MAN, you should have heard the reaction. That said, if you only have a limited time, see what you can see, if you have time, see some more (including Palermo). If not, don't sweat it and enjoy what you can. You will love Sicily!!

With a week I would do 3 stops in the north and all easy to access. Fly into Palermo and out from Catania and stay in Palermo, Cefalu, and Taormina.

See also my answer to one of your other posts.

We spent a week in Palermo, loved it & want to go back - it is really interesting & atmosheric & there's so much to see.

Didn't care for Cefalu - found it a bit depressing.

What time of year are you going ? To me that would affect how long I spent in some places; e.g. I'd spend longer in Taormina if it's going to be warm.

Without knowing that, I'd say probably either split evenly between Palermo & Taormina; or 4 nights Taormina, 2 nights Siracusa, 1 night Agrigento.
