Elvira,

Thanks.... I always look forward to your reports. I've been to Paris a couple of times and your way of writing takes me there again.

Sue

Thanks, Orla--it bothered me, too. Oysters with shallot vinegar dipping sauce and brown bread and butter. YUM!

Come on and fly with me. Let's float down to Peru. In lava land there's a one man band and he'll tute his flute for you. Weather wise it's such a lovely day. Just say the words and we'll beat the birds down to Acalpulco Bay.

Ahhhh come fly with me come , fly with me~
sort of summons up lots of old memories,no? :o)

Orla, thanks for the post! It actually depends on which recorded version of the song. My live version he says cool twice, some he says fresh. He opted to change words when he performed, especially in his later years, when his memory wasn't as sharp. Also, the "okay" is a transition phrase that I didn't want to write the whole thing out. It's actually "but that ok-aytes California" ... blending the okay with hates. My first job out of college was touring with Frank on his Golden Jubilee tour and doing all of the sponsor marketing work, so I just went with my personal choice of his versions. Sorry I wasn't more specific. ;-) Always good to meet a fan of Frank!

Ooops ... make that Diamond Jubilee (it was for his 75th b'day after all). Sorry, haven't had my caffeine yet.

trip report

Orla Feb 22nd, 2002 07:37 AM

Heather...you are right to put me right! I don't have the live version so I bow to your superior knowledge. I am humbled and will think twice before I jump right in with my big "correction" boots. I do apologise. That Frank job you mentioned sounds fantastic! Cheers, mate.

So I saw this thread title last night and completely skipped over it - shoulda KNOWN by the odd title that it was Elvira!!

Glad you're back!! Wonderful trip report (as always). I'm hoping to make it to the Pantheon this trip, too. Want to see Madame Curie's final resting place as well as those of the Philosophes.

Between yours and Kavey's trip reports I am DYING for Paris. I think I need to go into a coma until April.

Tony Hughes Feb 22nd, 2002 08:03 AM

Oh mary, mary, I'm completely contrary
when will you see the light? (about paris/france)

MaryC Feb 22nd, 2002 08:08 AM

Dearest C,

I'm not sure if crawly-bum-lick is a general UK expression but I recall that it was used by Rik in a Young Ones episode (the one where Vyvyan gets pregnant so the hippy, Neil, has to get a job on the police force). I think it means to be sycophantic (or a$$-kissing).

MaryC Feb 22nd, 2002 08:10 AM

Tony, Tony, never, NEVER!!! It calls to me, I tell ya!!! I must heed the call. : )

Tony Hughes Feb 22nd, 2002 08:10 AM

Very, VERY good memory Mary.

MaryC Feb 22nd, 2002 08:22 AM

Hey - it was my favorite episode and I've practically had the whole thing memorized since I was 20. My best friend in college and I used to do the whole skit from memory. She did a great smarmy Rik!! (That's Rik with a silent P).
Was able to get the boxed set of The Young Ones episodes (as well as some of The Avengers) from Channel 48-Store of Knowledge but they've since closed (they also had Ab Fab but I never got them - WAH!). My kids are now hooked on The Young Ones, too!!
