Sevilla Booked! Finally!
 

After juggling kids’ school and work schedules, our own work schedules and taking in the wonderful information on this forum, my husband and I finally put a stake in the ground:

*About 3 1/2 weeks in Andalusia and Madrid in September-October, and
*A week in Mexico City with the fam over Christmas and New Years

The majority of our time will be in Sevilla and spent, much like we did in Aix two years ago, sinking into the culture, sightseeing in the day and working in the evenings (California time.) Retirement is a few years off still … Flights booked. Apartment booked.

We will take 6 nights of real vacation time at the end. Our current plan is to go to Granada for 2 nights and 4 nights to Madrid. We will take day trips via train or bus from Sevilla. Beyond Cordoba and Rhonda, are there other towns that we should visit? We are not opposed to traveling to a town and spending a night if it is a must-see; perhaps Malaga?

I would love any thoughts about day trips from Sevilla.

I believe it is illegal to work remotely on a tourist visa. Would need to get the correct visa to do so

Lrice, I would definitely visit Malaga for 1 night, perhaps even 2 nights. We spent 2 nights there and loved it! The city center is lovely; it’s pedestrianized with marble streets, nice restaurants, cafes, and shops. We loved our walk to the top of the Alcazaba with magnificent views of the Mediterranean. There are lots of small art museums; we visited the Picasso. A seaside promenade, a Ferris wheel, the beach, the Ataranzas market, the cathedral. Several people told us not to go there, and I am so happy we didn’t listen to them. A poster on this forum always praised Malaga, and I am so happy I listened to him/her.

How have you taken care of that? Enlighten us all please.There are many on this forum who would love to follow the same route

We had a trip in Andalusia, our favorites:
Sevilla, Malaga, Frigiliana small village above Nerja), Alhambra in Granada(tickets difficult to obtain, taken by tour groups, love the night time experience), Antequera, stayed in rural Loja.
Could have missed Gibraltar, monkeys are aggressive.
Trip to Morocco could be fascinating.
Lovely country- Sublime vistas and delicious food.

I liked Malaga a lot; spent about 4 nights there a number of years ago. But unless you plan to visit on the way to Madrid, I am not sure I would do a daytrip from Sevilla to Malaga. Too much time in transit, I think. Same goes for Ronda, which we found packed with tourists and just not all that fabulous, considering its great reputation. Maybe I would have had a much different opinion had I stayed overnight.

From Sevilla, for day trips or overnight, I would look much closer, to Cadiz, Sanlucar (especially good if you like seafood), Puerto Santa Maria, and the wonderful small city of Jerez. Those are closer to Sevilla than Malaga. I especially recommend Jerez which is easy to get to by public transport from Sevilla.

I believe that I have read here to book train tickets ASAP as prices only go up , right?

From Madrid Airport, do you recommend catching a taxi or Uber to Madrid Puerto De Atocha vs the train? Our plan is to buy flexible AVE tickets to Santa Justa since we don’t know if our flight will be on time, passport control lines, etc. We land just past 2pm on Iberia.

You still have not given us details of how you can get to work in Spain, without a work visa. Other members would love to know the tips on they can do that too.

Thanks for the information about the train Vanaarle. My company and clients do business and have customers in the EU and the UK. They handle the entry requirements for me. Sorry that I don't have more detail.

The digital visa is only in the news. Nothing on any governmental website which says how to obtain it. It is like a ghost.

These are just a few suggestions for day trips from Sevilla, but there are many other towns and cities in the region worth exploring. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time soaking up the culture and sights of Andalusia!
