Season's Greeting from a Secret Admirer

Please accept with no obligation, explicit or implied, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, non-judgmental, tolerance embracing, inclusivity enhancing, equality seeking, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious/ secular persuasion of your choice.

Okay, enough with being PC. In other words: You all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Sincerely: Degas and his "little wife"

Scarlett Dec 23rd, 2003 04:08 PM

The Yankee and I and Pup, of course, would also like to add our Greetings of the Season!

jor Dec 23rd, 2003 04:13 PM

Well Degas, now we know who you do not like. As if we didn't before. Merry Christmas to you too, and the little wife.

Happy One-Size-Fits-All Holidays.

obxgirl Dec 23rd, 2003 04:14 PM

All political bruhaha be gone for the holidays!

Cheers to you and the little w, Degas, for your informative questions and your creative replies.

kalena Dec 23rd, 2003 04:27 PM

Here's to tolerance and laughs and health, peace, and prosperity in the new year! I like the part about enjoyable traditions.....may we all get to focus on fun and unwind.

SeaUrchin Dec 23rd, 2003 04:35 PM

It is refreshing to see the words
"Merry Christmas"
again, it has been so long.

For all of you who are celebrating another occasion, have a happy one.

RosemaryM Dec 23rd, 2003 04:37 PM

Hi all,
Just taking this opportunity (between cooking and shopping) to send a greeting from Australia to all and especially sundry.
To those of you languishing in the deep midwinter, may the joys of the season (Solstice, Yule or Christmas) keep you warm and safe and to those of us glowing in the midsummer light may the season be merry (but not too merry, remember the double demerits the constabulary are imposing on speeders, drinkers and drivers!)
Have a good one everybody and pass the Bah Humbugs.

Cheers to you and the "little wife."

Have a Happy and Safe Merry Christmas!! ((b))

Degas Dec 23rd, 2003 04:50 PM

Wow, Blue Mountains, Australia. This amazing internet thing, that Al Gore was nice enough to invent, goes just about everywhere!

jody Dec 23rd, 2003 04:52 PM

Degas! you are THE MAN!

Merry Christmas to you and the little woman from deep in Central Florida...where the elves and fairies are getting ready for a happy holiday at Disney world!

wren Dec 23rd, 2003 05:02 PM

Degas, not too far away from Jody, here in South Florida where Santa and his elves are currently wearing their sunbathing attire, I wish you the Merriest of Christmases ever!!

Grasshopper Dec 23rd, 2003 05:07 PM

And from 9500 ft. in the Rockies, amidst a winter wonderland... Merry Merry to you all too!

kalena Dec 23rd, 2003 05:12 PM

No fair! This was not supposed to be about politics!

ChatNoir Dec 23rd, 2003 05:14 PM

Degas, may your gator-filled swamp never drain, your hidden Still never run dry and your catfish farms expand as fast as your impressive waistline.

Happy travels in 2004.

jor Dec 23rd, 2003 05:29 PM

Degas, you are an absolute master of inserting your social and political agenda in most everything you post.

Merry Christmas to all, independant of your background and beliefs, weather or not you share my view of the world, or if you like or dislike me and my country for any reason.

Marilyn Dec 23rd, 2003 05:35 PM

And a Happy Chanukah, too.

Degas Dec 23rd, 2003 05:50 PM

jor, jor, jor. Please try to calm down and relax. This is supposed to be a time of peace, happiness and good will. No need to have a severe blood pressure spike over some harmless humor.

I assure you that my post was not part of some vast secret conspiracy to ...... .

Sue_xx_yy Dec 23rd, 2003 05:54 PM

Degas et al

I ask that this forthcoming holiday, whatever it may be, be granted or withheld, as the case may be, in such a manner as to insure your receiving said benefit. I ask this in my capacity as your non-elected intermediary between yourself and that which may not be yourself, but which may have an interest in the matter of your receiving as much as is possible for you to receive of this thing.

But failing that, enjoy the season and have a Happy New Year.

(With apologies to Roger Zelazny: Creatures of Light and Darkness)

kismetchimera Dec 23rd, 2003 06:03 PM

Happy Holidays, Buon Natale, Melekalikimata to you dear Degas and also to your Petite Femme...

Rosemary, that was great...Merry Christmas to You...

And to All Fodors Friend, Christians or non Christians.....MERRY CHRISTMAS and a very Happy New Year...

jor Dec 23rd, 2003 06:06 PM

Degas, we are complimenting you! No need to get defensive.

Margie Dec 23rd, 2003 06:10 PM

Happy holidays to all of you and best wishes for a new year filled with safe & happy travels!

Degas Dec 23rd, 2003 06:11 PM

jor, okay, okay. You had me wondering for a minute. My only social agenda is cheaper cheeseburgers and larger seats on planes.

Must have been sipping too much of my "special eggnog" - it makes me want to dance with wolves and howl at the moon!

dln Dec 23rd, 2003 07:14 PM

Degas, I have no clever words to entertain you with, so I'll say it plainly, "Merry Christmas!" And may 2004 find you regaling us with more tales of you and the little wife and the adventures over the pond.

cigalechanta Dec 23rd, 2003 07:23 PM

Bigger seats for Degas in the new year, and he will keep up his painterly ways.
To the little wife: Post to us if he is
giving you any grief!

KirRoyale Dec 23rd, 2003 10:04 PM

Happy holidays to you too, Degas, and to all the Fodorites who I've met on-line and in person. May we all have peace and happy travels in 2004!

Kir Royale

easytraveler Dec 23rd, 2003 11:54 PM

Happy Holidays! And may 2004 bring all of you and yours much joy and happiness!

kalena Dec 24th, 2003 12:47 AM

Well mele kalikimaka to you all but let's have some truth in advertising. Al Gore never said he invented the internet. He said he put in place the funding that made the internet possible. That statement was taken out of context. I have my own list of current whoppers that I'll defer for the sake of peace and harmony. But I do love the power of the internet, so thanks to any and all that made it possible. So there, and have a Merry Christmas one and all....

now what about that madcow disease in Washington?

BTilke Dec 24th, 2003 12:55 AM

Why Degas, thank you!
And merry Christmas to you, too!
A copy of Al Franken's current best-seller is on its way to you as we speak. Hope you enjoy this (much-needed, apparently) Christmas gift!

mj Dec 24th, 2003 01:05 AM

Degas,
To you and yours and to all who celebrate the day; have a Blessed and Merry Christmas!

mj and family in NY

goldwynn Dec 24th, 2003 01:44 AM

And from the Great White North and Northern Ontario, may you all get a little snow for Christmas.

Happy Holidays
North Bay, Ontario

erinb Dec 24th, 2003 03:07 AM

Degas darlin! Back atcha baby!

Everyone,, Happy Holiday's from North Carolina...you all have a 'nog for me! (A bit of backwoods advice..."Southern Comfort"...warms nicely between the egg and the nog...if ya know what I mean!)

Scarlett....are you celebrating a southern christmas yet? If so...turn the heat down and open the icebox...makes climitizing much easier!

Final question? Degas, honey...what did you get Ms. Degas this year and more importantly, what did ya ask Santa for this year????

Moi?? I asked for a new keyboard...my "z" key is broken....do you know that I must be the only person in the whole world that has worn out her "z" key. No one else ever seems to use that letter. Everytime I have to have that letter, I have to find one and cut and paste it. I can never find it on the web page I am on at the time (to cut and paste)...so I saved a "z" in a word document. When I am posting, I have to pull up that document and cut and paste. Santa...send me a new keyboard....please.....

May your day be bright and snowy....your tree be beautiful (I don't worry about that here in my neck of the woods...lots of trees..heck I gottem tryin to grow underneath my house..)... all your presents be many, double and triple wrapped... tight!

And please gosh...don't forget the pet treats...my baby Casey would never forgive me...that new mop head of my sisters(Shih-Tzu/Pekingese mix) would be eatin the christmas wrappings...and the cats would be climbing the tree..beside's you can always use them in christmas chex mix if you run low....

Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday's all!

I, too, would like to wish each and every one of you, my dear Fodorite friends, a Merry Christmas and Happpy Chanukah from the Dutch West Indies.

Thanks for the greetings, Degas. :)

Steve_James Dec 24th, 2003 03:37 AM

And from deepest Somerset - where the cider apples grow O-)

Merry Christmas to you all!

Steve

Degas Dec 24th, 2003 04:29 AM

Kalena, how sweet of you to remind me of three wonderful years I sent living on the beach on Oahu.

Visons of snorkling on Christmas Eve at Hanauma Bay and then having a massive "lunch plate" (two scoop a rice, Korean ribs, macaroni salad, Filipino Adobo, Teriyaki and Kimchi) at the L&L Drive-Inn on University Ave always runs through my mind at this time of year.

Mele Kalikimaka is the thing to say
On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day

That's the island greeting that we send to you

From the land where palm trees sway

Here we know that Christmas will be green and bright

The sun to shine by day and all the stars at night

Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way

To say "Merry Christmas to you."

carniecosmo Dec 24th, 2003 04:32 AM

I prefer Degas with a dash more PC. Reminds me of my dad's warmth and dry humor. (Except dad is a conservative Democrat.) But, I really can't stand when a man refers to a woman as "little," and I don't care if the woman is 4'2". If my guy ever tried that word with me, he'd find out how the heel of my Rockport feels up the side of his head.

Needless to say, I'm filled with Christmas cheer and with the family, again! All 32 of us! Didn't I just do this a month ago? Thank God I didn't forget my bottle of Grey Goose. I almost needed to open it at the airport. The fun of travel sure isn't at the airports these days. At least my dad remembered to buy the Cointreau. This may just be a happy one after all.

Best wishes everyone!

carnie ((D))

Degas, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!

To Fodorites too!

A young woman reservist from our office was called up in March, and is serving in Iraq in 120 degrees temperature. She had to leave two small children behind(one only four months' old). Keep her in your prayers this Christmas season.

Please do not forget our military overseas.

hansikday Dec 24th, 2003 05:29 AM

Hi Degas

Merry Christmas and all the best in 2004. Don't change no matter if a few silly dingbats try to bash you. You make people laugh and they just look petty and jealous.

MarthaT Dec 24th, 2003 05:40 AM

Happy Holidays to all from sunny Orlando Florida.
The best of the season to everyone all over the world.

Scarlett Dec 24th, 2003 05:52 AM

I would rather my husband call me his "little wife" than some other names I have heard wives referred to as..
Actually, I am a small person and his wife, so it is true in our case!
Meanwhile Degas is bigger than life and I want to Thank him again for all the laughs and great paintings!!
