Scavi Tour at the Vatican

Several people have mentioned the Scavi Tour as one of the highlights of their trip to Rome. Where can I find out more about this tour as my husband and I are leaving for Rome on April 18?

Terry

Hi Terry,

Send an e-mail request to the following address:
<[email protected]> stating the dates you will be in Rome and the number of adults in your party. I had an affirmative response within 48 hours with directions about how to proceed.

Buon viaggio

The Scavi Tour takes you underneath St. Peter's to a Roman necropolis with tombs of many families and what is believed to be the tomb of St. Peter. It is a rare opportunity, as only about 100 people per day are admitted, as opposed to thousands touring the Vatican and St. Peter's. A reservation can be made by e-mail to The Ufficio Scavi(Excavations office): [email protected] They will need to know the dates you are there, the size of your group, and which language you speak. I highly recommend this tour.

Thanks for your help. I sent my e-mail and got confirmation today. FYI - the e-mail address to use is the one Betsy gave above.
