Running with the bulls

I have not tried it yet. What are anyones experiences like?

maitaitom Jul 9th, 2004 03:41 PM

I had a friend named Al who did it once. I still remember the headline the next day..... Al Gored".

Not bad, maitaitom....but don't give up your day job yet!

Jay Leno had a line last night (I think): It's time for the annual running of the idiots in Pamplona.

There are better forms of exercise, much better forms of adventure - and no excuse for abusing innocent animals.

My son did it,several years ago....WEll, he was getting over knee surgery, and was disappointed not to be able to, but he was THERE. He and 3 friends, all professional men in their late 20's went from LA to Barcelona,,then on to Pamplona. You just run through the side fenced streets of Palplona in front of lots of bulls...people screaming from the sides.,(sound a little silly to me, but it is a prestigous "festival".) Most do it for the thrill, and occasionally some people aren't fast enough, or they fall, but I don't think they lose their lives. It's a BIG event in Spain, once a year..and I thought it was around July 7! I'm pretty sure you can find out a LOT more doing a search on Google!

Howard...LOL ....D'accord!
We still love you, Bud ((F))

cigalechanta Jul 9th, 2004 04:28 PM

But it's nice to see the bulls throwing the people for a change,,,:)

indytravel Jul 9th, 2004 05:26 PM

I always root for the bulls too cigale. :-)

rj007 Jul 9th, 2004 05:32 PM

As do I indytravel. To paraphrase Jamie Lee Curtis' line from a Fish Called Wanda - "To call them stupid would be an insult to stupid people!"

It was a big drunken party when we were there.

Possum Jul 10th, 2004 08:45 AM

I have a male friend who ran all the way into the arena(complete with necktie etc) and a female friend who enjoyed the festivities from the sidelines. Neither was hurt at all -but people ARE sometimes gored and DO die.
A few years ago, there was a big "pile up" of people near the arena and many were crushed and killed.
It's a traditional event, but it's international popularity has certainly increased the risks. Too many people undertaking a very risky activity in too small a space.

Today's news report says that four people were gored-two were Americans. Quite a few other people were injured.

rj007 Jul 10th, 2004 03:22 PM

Possum, francophile03

Please refer to my earlier poat. I rest my case.

rj007 Jul 10th, 2004 03:26 PM

That should rest "post". I was shaking my head at this lunacy and I couldn't see the keyboard.

rj007 Jul 10th, 2004 03:29 PM

A bull just jumped on my keyboard! Have to go! :)

m_kingdom2 Jul 10th, 2004 03:33 PM

I'm against blood sports, although a man in a ring with knives and a trapped bull is hardly much sport or competition.

Shooting is kinder as it kills the animal outright, taunting it like with fox hunting, bull-fighting etcetera is simply cruel and somewhat perverse.

I concur with others - good luck to the bulls!

francophile03 Jul 10th, 2004 03:52 PM

Ha ha ha rj007

kismetchimera Jul 10th, 2004 04:54 PM

What a bunch of Idiots!!!
I Also Cheer for the BULLS....I hope that they gore everyone foolish enough to run with them.

Sue4 Jul 10th, 2004 05:11 PM

I agree also, GO, BULLS, GO!!!

cigalechanta Jul 10th, 2004 05:36 PM

Go to the Camargue in France and see what magnificent animals they are. It's never a man to bull combat(no Heroes) They weaken the bull first.
So I repeat: It's nice to see the bull throw the people for a change.
