Rome in Dec. or more?
I plan a family trip to Rome Dec 19-26th. Is it too much time to spend in Rome? Are Pisa, Pompei good day trips? What is open Xmas eve/day?? Thanks!

There is no one answer for this. Some will say a month is not enough time and others will say that 5 days is plenty.
My personal opinion is that 10 days is ideal for a Rome visit, especially if you are sure you won't be returning. Pisa and Pompei are both possible as a day trip, but there are other, worthwhile options that are much closer and would be much easier on you and your family. |
And the options are.....?? Thanks!

Hi P,
Check "destinations" on top of this page and go to Rome. Your latest question about "options" will be answered. Simply put, do some research. |

Thanks for all the info. Does Rome "shut down" Xmas day??

My husband and I spent 8 days in Rome in February and loved it.
We did two day trips by train and enjoyed both........one to Florence and one to Venice |
The wifey and I are doing it similar, from the 24th through the 28th in Rome, then on to Sicily.
From what I've found, just about all of the places that require an "entrance" are closed on the 25th. It also seems that most restaurants are also closed and public transportation is curtailed. However, we're planning on just roaming around the city by either bus or car. If the traffic is light, I'll drive, otherwise, take buses when we can find one or walk. There are so many "public" things to see and do, we found that we simply don't have the time to see it all. Fountains, plazas, Spanish Steps, Aventine, etc. It seems most stuff is open on the 24th and 26th. I haven't gotten a complete confirmation on the Vatican Museums being open on the 26th, but according to their site, they are. Officially closed on the 24 & 25. Dave |
