Donna,
If you have time, you might want to post a review on biddingfortravel.com so you can help out other people who might be bidding on Rome.

Donna, glad the trip turned out well. When I was reading the posts I was thinking I wonder if this is going to end well!

Let me add my appreciation, Donna, for your post. We also booked this hotel for next spring and I have been waiting to see what your impressions were of the hotel and the area. As time has passed, I had just about decided to cancel our reservations and start all over when I saw your update. (I kept replaying the condom machine post in my head, which was giving me nightmares. We can handle a "little" seedy, but seeing druggies, scantilly clad women hanging around the streets and stepping over disgusting trash isn't my idea of a vacation. And of course as time went on, my mental pictures were getting even worse.) Glad to hear you didn't have any problems. Thanks again!

Interesting thing this Priceline! Not sure if I would ever take a chance like that on a hotel room. I don't think $100/night is any particular bargain in Rome. I have stayed in absolutley safe, quiet, clean, hospitable, well appointed convents all with private bath for as little as 38 EURO / night. If I was the adventurous type I would stay in youth hostels. To each his own I guess.

fred -- if you have recommendations for staying at convents in italy, it would be much appreciated. in rome and otherwise...thanks!

Donna:

Never let one negative response out of so many put a damper on your visit to anyplace. While a mouse in my hotel room isn't something I would appreciate, however, this must have been an isolated incident. Go and have yourselves a whopping good time!

We just returned from Rome. Stayed at Le Petit Hotel right around the corner from Plazza Republican. One of the cleanest hotel's yet! Felt very safe. Great rates.
