Carey,
My fiancee and I are going back in October. We went two years ago and saw a lot of the "usual suspects". This time we are going to try and take a little slower pace and do some "non or at least less touristy" things. A couple I have read about are a picnic in the Pincio Gardens just above Piazza del Popolo and also going there at sunset for very romantic views of the Roman skyline, including St Peters.

There are a bunch of other ideas in a little book called Trip Builders. In fact, I have pinched a few from their web site (is it stealing if I give them credit??) and will paste them below.

Their web site is www.tripbuilder.com and you can pick the book up for a measly $5.95, but it has a lot of kind of off the beaten track ideas. The quotes below are from their Rome - Honeymooners section on their website. Go to Special Suggestions and there is a drop down menu of which it is only one. Any way, hope you have a great time and a happy marriage!
Ciao e tante auguri!!
Luigi

"Romance is in the air when you do the following:

Picnic amidst the orange trees of Parco Savello on the Aventine Hill (accessed Via Clivo dei Publicii and Via Santa Sabina).

Sip cappuccino at the rooftop bar of the Hotel Eden and take in sunset views of major Roman landmarks.

Spend some time in the picture perfect piazzas like Piazza Mattei, Piazza Campitelle and Piazza Margana, where the sounds of trickling fountains will be all you hear bouncing off the cobbled courtyards.

Head up the Janiculum Hill, where Cleopatra once stayed, known for the scenic view from its summit--Piazza Garibaldi (walk up steep Via Garibaldi and then Passegiata Gianicolo). Stop at San Pietro in Montorio, a lovely 15th century church known or the circular chapel by Bramante in the courtyard, plus sweeping view from the terrace.

Examine the scandalous nude of Napoleon's sister, done by Canova, one of the great sculptors of the 17th century. On display in the sumptuous Galleria Borghese, also home to an incredible painting collection with works by Caravaggio and Titian."
