The third of the Food TV host's recommendations was one I was just about to add here, when I saw it listed n the previous posting. The "Polidor" experience is authentic, old style bistro eating with a history. Two thoughts: 1) Order the plate of the day and 2) Do visit the "loo" while you are there.

Jill- this is my first trip to paris as well (next month) so I can't give you advice.. I'm just appreciating everyone else's! I did want to say a similar thing happened to me last year.. I had a trip to Ireland planned and got laid off the month before. Good for you, for not cancelling! Even if you have to scale back, you will have the time of your life! Have a wonderful time!

How about Toupary restaurant at the top of Samaritaine. It was fairly reasonable and very nice view.

I just couldn't help responding when I saw the Polidor rec. The fellow next to us had something so foul smelling, we could barely eat. Our meal was cheap, but mediocre at best. No atmosphere. Instead, try our fav. recommended by Paris resident...Peraudin in the 5th. Not expensive, excellent traditional French food, friendly waiters, cozy atmosphere. Just down from the Pantheon.
