Waiting for your TR.... sneaking a look at your thus far uploaded photos in anticipation, ... :)

That's nice to hear Adelaidean! But as you know, I'm a bit pokey. We're in Switzerland until Christmas, then back to Munich for departure. I hope you're not burning up there in OZ.

Well, we ended up eating at Braueri Spezial - no English menu so we struggled quite a bit. Fortunately a guest at the next table helped us considerably. There were some interesting options on offer, most of which we were afraid to try - wild boar, etc. It was a good choice though.

One of our party loved her dish with pork crackling, one went for the schnitzel and two of us chose the vegetarian option.

We had lunch at Hofbräu, which was not as much of a success. Very limited menu, more about drinks than food. For lack of a better choice I tried the chestnut soup, which was surprisingly good. The others opted for pumpkin pasta, pumpkin pate and a sausage plate.

For me, our best Bamberg meal was at an Italian place I knew from previous visits - Casa Italia.

We had plans for dinner at Schlenkerla, but never made it. The bitterly cold wind and slushy snow inspired us to do a cafe crawl insteadwarm , where we drank gluhwein, ate potato soup and strudel.

Best laid plans and all that.

A note about Bamberg - when I was last there a few years ago, it was packed, and so busy with cruise ships an roving groups that it was really off-putting.

This time, the place seemed abandoned - very quiet. Kind of nice.

Glad to see your report, Mel! Bamberg was very quiet in November too. It was rainy and drizzly the whole time we were there. But we liked it a lot.

That's a shame, Mel - it's a very lean meat and makes a very good stew, a bit like pork. I always opt for the game offerings on a german menu because they usually cook it very well and accompany it with fruit of some description.

Hope you enjoyed what you had though.

Hi annhig -

I'm not a meat eater in general, so wild boar was a bit off-putting, but I'll take your word for it.

perhaps next time, Mel, now you have an idea what it tastes like.

Honestly nothing to be frightened of and perhaps more acceptable to those of a vegetarian disposition because it will have led a natural foraging life, rather than being fed with cattle cake or whatever.

And Germany has never struck me as being a particularly vegetarian-friendly place.
