Actually, the Zouave is at the Pont de l'Alma. If it rains so hard that it gets washed down to the Pont de Neuilly, half of Paris will have been washed away with it.

plambers, all I can say is I hope it gets better before you get here. It's pretty bad now, cold and rainy, but at least I don't need to water my garden!

There are a couple of large trucks parked in back of the headquarters of the Garde républicaine, not far from Bastille.
They are filled with equipment for the flooding drills that were conducted a couple of months ago. Huge blocks of granite, sandbags, that sort of stuff.

I'm glad I live nearby.

Anybody who wants to take a boat trip on the Seine should do it within the next two days because the water level is not far from the limit for navigation.

Considering how much rain has fallen not just in Paris but also upstream, I would suspect that navigation will be suspended for at least two weeks.

The news about the lightning in Parc Monceau was reported in the US media (I saw it on some TV news show on Saturday night) shortly after it happened, the number reported was 11 being injured (children). The French news media only reported 11 injured also. But many more were injured in Germany due to lightning.

guess those bateaux mouche on the Seine are cancelled cause they can't get under bridges - scratch one must thing off your list if going soon.

and forget the tour of Les Egouts too!

This morning, the quai-side roads on the Right Bank were closed to traffic because they are inundated.
The water reaches half-way up the ramps leading to where traffic normally whizzes down to the river level - but today there were only ducks swimming around.

On the Left Bank, I couldn't even see the benches on the quais.

Haven't been over to Les Berges, near the Musee d'Orsay, but I'm sure all that has been closed.

Just checked the FaceBook pages of all the "bateaux mouches" - none of them are operating until further notice.

Les Berges are underwater and all of the Bateaux-Mouches at Alma are tied up halfway across the river.

The Zouave only has water up to his ankles so far. The highest I ever saw it was up to his waist in 1982. During the big flood of 1910 the water was up to his shoulders.

Just been looking at the results of the one month of rain in Prague in one day. The resulting bore of water then charged down the Vltara and hit the Elbe, turning north it seems to have hit Dresden and some smaller towns have then been overwhelmed, with 80,000 inhabitants moved out of their houses, the army called in and then 650,000 sand bags flown in from Denmark. Meanwhile the same basin but facing south seems to have put a bore into the Danube which then breached the defences all the way east in Budapest.

The damage to the Czech economy will ensure that they now cannot afford the US second grade jet fighters they wanted so the USA will not grow as fast this year and Putin will feel comfortable being a bit more abnoxious.

Both the Vézère and the Dordogne have overflowed their banks. There are "Inondation" signs everywhere.

Hope those piranhas don't get into the swimming pools when the Dordorgne River, said to be infested with them, come inland with the flooding!

I have updated my report.

In any case, the RER C closed today, and the trains from Montparnasse to Versailles are cut off as well due to flood problems.

Therefore the only way to get to Versailles now is from Saint Lazare. Lucky that Versailles has 3 stations!

There is a bus service to replace the closed part of the RER C, though.

How about their handful of practicing Christians also praying?

I hate to be the bringer of bad tidings but the BBC weather forecast is showing rain in Paris on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with high temps leading to the possibility of more thunderstorms. After that warm and sunny.

While walking through a top secret office building today, I did notice the weather machine was programmed for moderate rain in France. However, I overheard someone say they might crank it up to heavy rain. You all knowz we Americans can influence the weather? Right? I mean we don't control the weather, but we can direct storms using advanced technology. Sometimes just showing UK Facebook pages to the storms is enough to scare them south, other times we use things like HAARP

Rest assured, Americans determine your fate. So please don't make it worse on yourselves, and just agree with our demands whatever they might be
