Istanbul is NOT the capital of Turkey; the capital is Ankara.
The Great and Powerful Thingorjus |
Great and powerful Thingorjus, of course you're right, shame on me. It's just so very difficult to imagine, if you know both cities, that a marvellous & fascinating place like Istanbul could NOT be the capital, and a place like Ankara could be... but that's how it is, unfortunately.
Ok, so I substitute: Turkey - Ankara - 3 |

Oh, it is OK about Istanbul. I make mistakes all the time. It is hard to be an alcoholic and have a full-time job.

Salute, Franco! You know, I didn't even presume to correct (you or most anyone else, for that matter) without my own fact checking, and my world atlas listed Monte Carlo as the ONLY town in Monaco (with about half the population, the rest being "suburbs".) Now to learn there is another town squeezed into those 149 hectares: "Monaco Ville", a place name begging to be immortalized in song.

Quite right, my apologies, Turkey = Ankara, not Istanbul. However Istanbul is the one I'd give a 10 to, if that's of any interest - based on the criteron I already outlined (that they're all a 10 when I'm there, but only a few rate a 10 on the basis of how much I'd like to go back to them).

Had to satisfy my curiosity about Monaco, so went to the official website.
Monaco has only one commune: Monaco, whose area is the same as the principality. Its coastline is 2.5 miles long, and the distance from coast to inland border ranges from 382 yards to .65 mile. There are 5 districts or areas: Monaco-Ville on the Rock is the old fortress city of the Palace, cathedral etc. Condamine (name means the arable land at the foot of a castle) Monaghetti (seems to be botanical gardens, etc in only landlocked area?) Fontvieille, created in the past 25 years with landfill, adding about 25% to Monaco's previous area (total is now 485 acres.) And Monte Carlo, created in the 19th century, named for Prince Charles III, and famous for its dramatically positioned casino, hotels etc. Now I want to go. Better send the tux to the cleaners. |
