Rachael Ray's Italian Wedding...
I just read that the Food Network's Rachael Ray got married last weekend in Montalcino! Does anyone have details??? I'm a huge fan of hers.
|
Only thing I heard was she was too busy to plan her wedding. Her mother and fiancee planned the whole thing.
|
I googled her name and all the stories were the same.
She got married in Montalcino and is teaming up with Oprah Winfrey`s production company for a syndicated cooking show pilot. Maybe she will release a few more details later or maybe it will be aired as a Food Network special!?!? ;-) |
I'm a fan of hers as well, however I am not that crazy about her 30 minute meals. I don't find the recipes to be that appealing. I like her $40 a Day show a lot better. Very informative and interesting. She's doing okay for herself and to think she never went to culinary school.
|
Oh rats! I guess my invitation was lost in mail. :-(
|
OK I am lost here and I don't have that channel in Ireland...who is Rachel Ray????? I love the idea of the Montalcino wedding though!
|
Siobhan: Rachel Ray is a cute young lady that has worked very hard to get where she is. She is on our Food channel and does a show on how to make dinners in 30 minutes. In another show she travels the world to show people how to eat on $40. a day. She has another new show that I haven't see yet that is a travel show.
She's cute, perky and very likable. She is about 37 years old. |
She is from upstate NY - near Lake George - and we first met her when she was working for one of our larger supermarkets, cooking food in the aisles!
|
If she is 37 I am going to gag. No woman that age should act so dippy and cutesy.
You in Ireland are not missing anything believe me. |
Peeky - Well her perkiness is part of the key to her success.
|
madison I have tried to watch her, really. If she were a teen she would be cute with her goofiness but since she is an adult woman I want to scream after a minute or two. If she were a comedianne it would be another story but the show treats her seriously. She has to stop the young cutesy bit at some point don't you think.
|
Racheal Ray started working in the food business at Macy's (eeek!!!) - I don't think she has any culinary training per se - but she's not nearly as bad as "semi-home made cooking with Sandra Lee" - wish I could find the link for her Kwanza cake ( a store bought angel food cake - canned apple pie filling - chocolate frosting from a can - I can't go on it just too horrible...)
|
Peeky, I can understand how her perkiness can get to you. As much as I like her it sometimes gets to me as well. But that is who she is and I think it's genuine.
Carta Pisana - Gosh I must have missed that episode of Semi Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee where she "made" the Kwanza cake. It sounds horrible. My question is who does she know at Food Network to beable to stay on the air? |
Siobhan, you can get information and all the recipes from Rachael Ray's shows at www. foodnetwork.com . There are also some good travel/food listings under the tasty travel header. It lists the $40 a day cities, etc. As for Sandra Lee's Kwanzaa Celebration Cake, the recipe is available at that website too. It sounds absolutely horrible, canned apple pie filling, canned frosting and corn nuts. It doesn't have any reviews yet, I guess it didn't sound good enough to anyone to want to try it.
|
Rachel Ray grew up in the restaurant business. Her family owned two restaurants before her parents finally divorced. Her mother was born in Sicily and her father is originally from New Orleans.
Who does Sandra Lee know? Gordon Elliott, who is credited with "discovering" her. BC |
I heard that the wedding was over in 30 minutes and only cost $40!

|
Maybe Rachael Ray will replace Rick Steves as the official Fodorite Controversial Figurehead.
|
in light of Racheal's tipping on her travel/food show - I'd hate to be the caterer.
very funny JoeG |
I like her $40 shows, but, yeah, I agree. Her perkiness can be too much at times especially when she giggles. And everything tastes 'Mmmmmmm...'
|
We have a lot of fun with “$40 A Day” at my house. We have made a kind of game of it. Whenever Rachel is served her meal, and believe me it doesn’t matter what it is, it could be cold dog paw on a piece of moldy bread, she will show it to us, with a giggle, then take a bite, chew studiously, and (here’s the fun part) we see which of us can sync best with her obligatory, “mmmmm-mmmmm”!
It’s icing on the proverbial cake (pun intended) if we can manage to roll our eyes in time with Rachel, then maybe throw in a cute, little-kid squirm in our chair! The problem is simple, the eating places receive considerable promotional consideration and some have said that the eateries even PAY to have Rachel dine with them. This hardly makes for objective opinions. After all, have you EVER seen Rachel take a bite and turn to the camera and say, “Wow, that’s really sub-par. It’s not very good AT ALL! In fact it tastes like…well you fill in the blank! I’m going to finish this mediocre coffee and then go up to the register and refuse to pay for this plate of junk.” Is she “perky”? Oh yeah, but then so is Katy Couric. Ugh! And people on this site make fun of Rick Steves? he’s probably been to Europe more times than everyone who responds to this thread combined… |
Children, please. Mother has a very bad headache and has just taken her second Vicodin of the day.
And Katie Couric is just about one of the most nausea-inducing "personalities" in America today! BC |
So after the gagging and one upsmanship has stopped, can we hear more about the wedding?
|
Gotta get in on this: Sandra Lee makes Rachel Ray look like Escoffier. I'm not sure who Gordon Elliot is, but I'll look him up.
My theory on Sandra Lee is that she is some incredibly wealthy and powerful older man's trophy wife. I would be willing to be money on it. She is horrible; sometimes I watch her just to see how awful her recipes of the day will be. And Rick Steves may have been to Europe more than most peoplel, but I don't think that really means much. He is still icky, and laughing all the way to the great big bank. |
LLC - I can't remember what had me rolling on the floor - the corn nuts or the red, black and green candels stuck in top of the cake.
read this recipe off her website - mmmmmm... http://www.semihomemade.com/menus/10_hanukkah.htm |
bookchick & DiAblo,
Don't get me started on Katie Couric - "you all!" ThinGorjus, Sorry I missed the deleted post. JoeG JoeG |
I don't know who Sandra Lee is, but she must be the American counterpart to the British Nigella Lawson. Nigella is an upper-class Londoner with a TV programme that features her giving instructions on how to throw together an evening meal or morning breaky for a high-powered career woman with a family. (Why not just hire a housekeeper?) She can usually be seen teetering around the kitchen in Celine pumps tossing some old bread into a skillet for "toasted cheese-and-tomato sandwiches." Meanwhile, in the background, her children (or just actors playing her children?) look malnourished and Riatlin-addicted. Nigella is the brunt of so many jokes in England. I like to think of her as an under-achieving Martha Stewart.
|
This thread is a glaring example of what ticks me off about the internet - Jennymary asks a simple question and a bunch of nobodys has to butt in and insult someone she is interested in. You could ask a question about the Virgin Mary on here and half the respondents would start insulting her choice of clothing or child-rearing skills. People are entitled to their opinions, but Jennymary wasn't asking for them. Just answer her damn question.

RR FAN, I look forward every evening at 6 PM to Rachael Ray's 30 Min Meals with a glass of chardonnay. I get some great ideas from her SHOWS! Carolisle
|
carolisle:
I do the exact same thing! And then I have another glass while I watch her 6:30 show (actually 5:00 and 5:30 where I live). This is the right kind of cooking for me. I don't particularly enjoy cooking and I get too impatient if a recipe is complicated. |
OH YUMO!!!!! Is THAT ever good!!!!!:D
Zues, it's no big deal and nobody is trashing anybody. |
You know, Zeus, I don't think blue is really her color... ;-)
Lee Ann |
Sorry Zeus but people don't get to choose their responses on a free forum and lecturing a group of annoymous posters about their responses to your post is an open invitation for more of the same. BTW well done Pickle.
|
Zeus I think it baffles us that a person with such mediocre cooking skills can have a show of her own. Just read the SAndra Lee recipe for her Kwanza cake recipe. Cornuts and canned apples for starters.
I Don't think this thread has really mean spirited at all, not like some of them. |
Rachael is a little bit "over the top" at times and yes...me and my family DO mock her..all in fun. I think she is really a very sweet young lady and also a successful one. As far as her cooking goes...she is what she is..she's NOT trying to be gourmet, she's trying to be fast and easy for the real world, for young singles or busy men or women that don't want to eat fast food all the time but don't have a lot of time to cook, and it works me thinks.
|
So.............does any one know about the wedding? I've tried to find out more info but can't.
Her perkiness can sometimes get a little annoying, but I agree with crefloors. For those single parents or working parents who don't have a lot of time in the evenings to prepare meals, she offers creative and varied menu ideas that are quick and fairly easy. Much better than boxed mac and cheese or hot pockets. What I've noticed is her clothing changes since she got engaged. Anyone notice the plunging necklines? And bringing more travel into this discussion...I really enjoyed watching her $40 in Florence and Rome. But back to my question....does any one know more about the wedding? I've tried to find out more info but can't. |
Her Paris visit was repeated last night by the way. I can't find anything about the wedding either. I wonder what her husband does? Her engagement ring was a quite a rock..I first saw it when she had that series of visiting with the stars..she was cooking with Muriel Hemmingway and talking about being engaged. Anyhow, they just might do something about the wedding on the Food Network..Paula Dean featured HER wedding on there last year.
|
I bet you're right about having some special about her wedding. The Paula Dean wedding was fun to watch.
I think RR's husband has something to do with the entertainment industry. He was with her on one of her Inside Dish shows. For some reason I remember a mention about him working in the entertainment industry...which then made sense as to her access to the stars she was having on the show. Or maybe she mentioned it on her 30 min meals show. She would occassionally make mention of 'her sweety John'....I think that was his name. I do hope they show the wedding though. It would be fun to see Montalcino and how it was all put together. |
Rachel's husband is an entertainment lawyer.
Paula Deen is a hoot. Some of her recipes are so over the top, partially because I am not used to Southern cooking and she is a Southern cook, but who cares, the minute she opens her mouth she is entertaining us. Her 2 sons deserve an honorable mention. |
This thread is a hoot. There are several blogs devoted just to negative comments about Rachael Ray. They are a good read if you are one of those people who know you can't stand her but can't quite put it into words why.
I personally hope she drowned in EVOO |
