Once in awhile it is nice to read something resurrected from 'the black hole'. However, you're right it's pointless to keep replying to an OP who posted 2 years ago.

Really how many times does that happen? Rarely i would think. How many "bookmarking"s are typically in the top 50 threads - one at the most or none i'd wager and if even two or three that means 47 other threads are there. Making mountains out of mole hills IMO |
I particularly like the post above claiming that "people who type "bookmarking" at the bottom of a thread don't understand what it means to create a genuine bookmark (or add the site to favorites), and don't care to take the time to learn" - it's always nice when people jump to conclusions about the motivations of others, not to mention extremely smug and condescending.
I'm an IT Trainer also doing some business analysis (for PC apps) and some web design. I've been using the internet since 1991 and browsing the WWW for rather a long time. I'm fairly confident, thanks, about how to bookmark/ favourite. However, I prefer not to copy and paste threads into Word documents, not to right click and save URLs or even to bookmark lots and lots of threads in my internet browser. Instead, I prefer to make use of the site functionality that allows me to find threads to which I've posted. Mostly, I'll have something to add but occasionally, I simply want to make a quick and brief post to add a thread to my list so I can find it again soon after. I'm more than aware that it will drop down my own threads list after not too long. I agree that it can be frustrating when people top really old threads in this way, but that's not something that happens often enough to bother, and what's more annoying than the topper are the subsequent responses from people who don't take the time to look at the content/ dates of other posts on the thread before adding their messages. Less stress, more chill, I say! |

For those of your carping about using "ttt" well Fodor's even advises just to do that! There!
<Put your post first. The forums are very popular; if your post does not receive any responses it could be "buried" under more active threads. I saw that other topic in the lounge over the weekend. I'm going to edit the "first thread" email so that it recommends that members follow up with another question if they don't get any responses the first time through.
The "ttt" was mentioned as something to do if your question doesn't get a response the first time "throught"-- but it really makes more sense for the new member to clarify their question or even ask it again on that thread instead of just posting ttt. We originally included it because we were finding that a lot of new members were just starting new topics/threads over and over instead of just adding to the one they started. |
Thanks to everyone for all the advice and info. I've been guilty of bookmarking because after having our computer re-programed, it crashed and we lost all my favorites. The new programs have been confusing, but I think I have it now. Thanks again.

Sass, my computer recently died too and with it all kinds of research from this site and others which had been neatly organized into folders. Arghhhh!!
So the lesson is this: backup up your favorite folders from time to time. |

When Fodor's implements functionality as clean and responsive as browsers' hierarchical structure, maybe I'll switch to it.
But typing "bookmarking" into a thread doesn't really do much, because all that happens is that the thread gets dumped on a pile of 2000 others, on every subject, on every forum. Here's the basic structure of my Fodor's Favorites Folder: Fodors Log in Country City &n bsp;Food &n bsp;Lodging &n bsp;Sightseeing &n bsp;Transport &n bsp;Phones/computers I leave it to others to click on their name and wait, scroll down looking, click on "next 50 threads" and wait, scroll down, rinse, repeat. I can get to any thread in about three clicks. |

I just noticed that in the TOP RIGHT corner of each page, next to "Visit our Bookstore" is a <b>Bookmark</b> tab. When I click on it, I get several choices of where I want to bookmark this thread to, including Favorites folder, Google, email, Facebook etc. Is this new or have I missed it the whole time?

It's been part of the larger Fodor's site for several months; it was added to the forums with this relaunch. It's handy.
We also still plan on adding an "internal" bookmark function that enables members to "bookmark" or "follow" a topic. |

1) I thought it topic was in Europe, but I guess it got moved to Forums Help 2) Katie, your last post was on Feb 24, 09 at 03:57 PM, but even now it's been 10 minutes since you posted, I'm still not seeing this topic showing up on the Left hand pink column, even though I've refreshed the "forums help" page several times. |
