Just put my planning hat back on after cancelling our month in Aix en Provence this fall. Thinking about a family trip with our young adult kids instead in August 2021 and Portugal is on the research list!

Some good news. We had planned to travel to London first and then on to Lisbon. Today I got a full refund from BA on our London-Lisbon-London RT. (:

Cancelled trip

I also have 3 trips that were cancelled (postponed). Keeping my fingers crossed for next year!

Maitai,
Sorry to hear about your trip plans. Let's hope we can all start traveling again before too long!
Paul and I have actually been thinking of a Portugal trip. By any chance, would you mind sending me your trip itinerary? Who knows, maybe we can meet up next year in another lovely part of the world.

ldatt22 Aug 24th, 2020 01:09 PM

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll get to go. Check out the Algarve (best part of Portugal).

Sorry about the cancellation and nice you are set for 2021. 2020 is the year of should have/wouldhave. Just want to add that Portugal is fabulous. I especally loved the Duoro valley and in general wine regions no longer excite me, but the Duoro was different. We all await 2021...

maitatom, you’ve inspired me. I’m starting to plan a trip to Portugal for the fall of 2021, too! I’m not ready to plan for the spring, but keeping fingers crossed that it’ll be manageable in a year. And who knows, maybe our paths will cross!

Just got a reminder on my calendar ... We should be leaving for the airport in about 2 1/2 hours.

Funny, we’re supposed to be leaving for our flight to Paris about the same time. 😞

Tom, we did not knew, in June, how things would be like right now. Unfortunately they are not good. So fortunately you have decided to postpone your trip.See you in 2021!

"See you in 2021!"

Helena, First round of port is on me (:

progol Sep 18th, 2020 06:38 AM

HelenaFatima & maitatom, Maybe we'll all meet up! That port sounds nice to me!

maitaitom Sep 18th, 2020 11:36 AM

Only 12 months to go!!!

HelenaFatima Sep 19th, 2020 11:05 AM

You probably know that Porto (the wine) was transported from Douro Valley by boats called rabelos. Once Mrs Ferreira, (AKA Ferreirinha) was in a boat, and the weather and etc not good, the boat turn but fortunately her sqruits, from the 19 century, saved her. For me, the best port wine (current, of course not a vintage) is "Reserva Ferreirinha". It costs 10 euros at the supermarket. It's a round box, with her face. I will be very happy to meet anyone from this forum just to drink a port wine. It's horrible not having tourists. Really sad. Meanwhile, I'm at your disposable for any kind of information. (By the way... with this lack of tourists, kids are, again, jumping to the river (from the bridge), DON'T DO IT, it's very dangerous, only these kids can do it.)

HelenaFarima,
Promise! When we finally do get to Portugal, I would love to meet up! Are you in Porto?

Wonderful story of the Porto, by the way!

HelenaFatima Sep 19th, 2020 03:46 PM

I live in Matosinhos, a neighbour city of Porto, but I was born in Porto and worked there almost all my life. There are many interesting stories, and, as we have time, I'm going to tell you another one: At the city center, really the heart of the city, near Sé Catedral, there is a litle curch, named "Capela das Verdades" - street is Rua de Dom Hugo (I don't know how to translate, but the name of the chappel it's more or less "the truph chappel"). It is where the portuguese, at Porto, Santiago's path beggins. This chappel has the ability of giving you answers for whatever you want to know. We call that "andar às vozes", translations is more or less "walking after the voices", and the thing is that you ask a question (at the chappel front door) and then you must be quiet and walk around, earing things random people says. And there you will find the answer.

Helena, you’ll be drinking a lot of porto next year, the second round’s on me! We were to visit Lisbon this May, now hope to make a longer trip in 2021, to include Porto and the Douro Valley... can’t wait to travel again, haven’t been anywhere since I just made it back home from Spain in March before borders were shut down.
