Pompeii Night tours
 

I was just on the Select Italy ticket site looking to make some reservations for museums. I happened to notice that they are offering a night tours of pompeii. Has anyone done this tour? It sounds interesting.

I don't doubt what you read; but, having just been there in January I can tell you that on an ordinary day if you do not get there by 3 you will NOT be allowed in. Begging does not help.

20 minutes of anticipation. The cost of the cards is of 24,00 Euro to person (21,00 Euro for the possessors of Artecard)
For the minor of 18 years, deputy part of a same familiar unit, the entrance is free.

I think this is a seasonal thing, which is why kslanker sounded a little doubtful. Susjc's auto translation is a little rough, so it's hard to figure out the details.

When we were there in October last, we saw mention of Pompeii at night in a tourist flyer. I also think it sounds interesting. What I don't know is whether you're able to wander throughout the excavation or are limited to one area. The auto translation sounds like the tour is limited. Also, walking on the uneven stone surfaces in semi-darkness could be dangerous.

Either way, you'd definitely want to go back and see the place in the daytime. It is more amazing that you can imagine.

I have been on the this tour! It was great but trying to get registered for it on Arethusa.net was difficult.
CAP is the Italian equilivant to our zip code. You must make reservations on the web to go on this tour!
I spoke with the guide and told him most travelers don't have access to computers as they travel (data ports in Italian hotels are not common). They are trying to help with the ease of getting reservations.
The cost of the tour was about 20 euro. It was worth all the trouble and money spent!
This ia a great multi-media tour as they luminate various public areas of the scavi starting at the Marina Gate. Not all the scavi area is included in this tour. Also, be aware it only offered on certain nights in English so plan accordingly. This tour is also offered during good weather seasons.
If no one has registered they do not give the tour but if someone has and they haven't reached their limit they will allow you to join the tour. Also note that they close the scavi at 5 pm and then re-open the scavi for this tour only. If you are the only one registered for this tour they will give it for you alone or at least they were last summer. Another nearby illuminated tour is of the Caeserta Palace which is a new offering and was another great tour!
