Flo and Rex: This thread MUST go on until *I* know how to order correctly two Kir(s) or my hubby MUST have a pastis then!
|
Flo, I forgot to ask you this: Do you ever ask for 1 spaghetto and if so, where? Do you do that when on a diet? Do you order it by the length and how much then, 4-6 meters? Well, it depends on the Number as well. I usually take Barilla Nr. 7.
I know, you can order 1 raviolo. Some places here serve that or used to. It's like a big cushion filled with whatsoever.
|
I'm sure this was just a typo, but "x"'s two recommended Burgundy Grand Cru are actually classified-growth Bordeaux.
|
Ursula and Rex,
I decided this topic deserved a long and torough after work clinical study (hic !), and I can confirm that ordering "Garçon, deux Kir royal", or "Mademoiselle, deux kir royaux", guarantees you'll get exactly the same beverage, but makes typing in English more difficult as usual.
|
Ursula,

Pity you posted your question about spaghetti so late, I would have added a spaghetto(i) study to the kir experiment !
|
I routinely order one capellino when I am out to dinner. When I am not watching my weight, I let myself go, and eat a spaghetto.
|
When in question you can always order the way I did my first time in Europe:

1. point to the desired line item on the menu.
2. hold up the number of fingers for the quantity desired.
3. thank the waiter in his native tongue with a smile.

It ain't pretty but it has never failed me when found in a difficult situation.

j.

Florence:
I back again. Thanks SO much for finally coming up with a most satisfactory question!

I so sorry about my question with the 1 spaghetto. But as you might know, Swiss people - especially the ones from the Canton Berne which incidentally I am, though only on the paper - are supposed to be real slow.

Calista:
When you eat 1 spaghetto, how long is it then? I heard of places you can order 1 spaghetto by the meter. No kidding! How much does one order to have a full plate - a couple of meters or so? Not speaking about diets right now, just be clear.
Thanks for an intelligent and satisfactory answer to all of you out there!

|
To the top for Jcat and G.

... and everybody able to answer.

Grazie mille!
|
Miss Manners would probably insist a gentleman say, "My wife will have . . ." first, and then "I'll have . . . ."

My pathetic contribution to this delightful thread. Thanks all for the info and some good chuckles -
|
Now after I try the pastis and the Kirs, the spaghettio and the spaghetti, I'll have to order an Alka and a Seltzer.
If one tissue is a Kleenex, are two kleenesees? Thanks guys...
|
To the top, just for fun!

PS: I do not know about the kleenex, so sorry.

The vixen ;-)

For the ultimate kir royale try
Cambord instead of Cassis - Cambord
being an exquisite liqueur made from
wild berries, hand-picked, in (you
guessed it) Chambord......wonderful
- even with cheap champagne!
