Hello Tracy. Try one of these two. Both of these visits were in mid or late May.

1. We stayed here in 2003 so please check prices on the webiste and see if it is still in your range:
www.casamartini.it

I loved loved loved this family owned charming little place in Cannaregio. The young Venetian owners (the building is the family's) are helpful and friendly. They will send you to their favorite local places to eat, down teeny alleys I never would have found myself.

2. Stayed here in 2005:
Ca'Turelli, in Dorsoduro.

This B&B was simpler than Casa Martini, but also cheaper. We accessed it through www.veniceby.com, under B&Bs.

Also small and family run, comfortable and in a good location.

Al Campaniel (I think that is the spelling) is also a reasonably priced option that gets good reviews here on fodor's. The owner was very helpful when I was emailing him for prices and information.

Good luck and don't give up - you have enough time to find something that won't break the bank.

Tracy,

If you go to Zermatt, consider Coeur des Alpes. It is worth every penny! We stayed in their small double room, but it was still fantastic, and the view, welcome, outdoor lounge and under the lobby pool are very special.

Whilst it is a couple of years since I stayed there Hotel Orion is a well run and centrally located hotel(just through the clocktower at San Marco). Whilst the rooms were smallish the facilities were modern. And whilst I can't help you with current prices, it was certainly one of the better value places that we stayed at.

I am staying at the La Locandiera (veniceby.com) it is a few minutes from St Marks square. Have read very nice reviews about it.
