My dates are October 24-29

Thanks for all your help with this. Could anyone tell me how to know if I will have to go through customs when I change planes in Frankfurt? I only have an hour to make the connection to Prague and am wondering it that will be enough time.
|
You do not pass through customs in Frankfurt, only immigration.
|
Thanks, J62. Does it make a difference if I have carryon luggage? Would it be better to check bags?
|
Uncleus, does that airport shuttle you used accept credit cards? I would like to use that one.
|
Ok I contacted them and you can use a credit card, but only if you prepay through PayPal. It looks like a reputable place...
|
Not sure I follow the question about whether it's better to check bags or carry-on. As far as whether you get on the connecting flight it makes no difference, unless your carryon is cumbersome and slows you down through the airport.
I never bet on my checked luggage making it to my destination the same time I do, so I always have everything I need for the first 24hrs with me in my carry-on. |
I don't understand the concern about customs. I don't even remember any in Prague, if there was any, it wasn't even memorable and didn't take any time up. Customs is really an issue when you go home, not when you are an arriving tourist. The only thing most people do who are just tourists traveling that takes up some time is go through passport control.
Prague is a small airport, there isn't any problem with anything, just follow the signs/crowds and do the normal things. There are ATMs, I've used them, they are near the exit to where the taxis are (at least that is one obvious place). I've used cars reserved through my hotel, many of them do that in Prague, and then you know they are reliable and what you are paying. I've also just arrived and got into one of the group vans at the curb which worked out fine as I'm not usually in a hurry when I arrive anyway. YOu don't have to reserve those group airport vans in Prague, as you do in many other cities, you can just sign up at the curb. It was cheaper than a private car, of course, and I imagine a taxi. I think I had to wait about 10 minutes for it to get full. Of course, it's been a few years since I was there, so if you find a deal on a reserved shuttle, that might be better. <<One more thing, I NEVER put my credit card in any ATM which does not have an open bank inside.>> This is very bad advice, one should never use a credit card to get money from an ATM, it is very expensive, you should use a debit/ATM card. I don't get koruna in advance before going to Prague. I can't imagine the big concern unless you are arriving at odd hours, but even if for some reason none of the ATMs worked, you could obviously go to an exchange desk there and exchange cash in an emergency, even though it would cost you a bit more (Travelex is big there and open 7 am to 9 pm in the arrivals area). It is always safer to take only carryon, but not because of customs, just because if you are transferring, then that eliminates the risk that your bags won't get transferred correctly, especially in a short time frame. |
Jayne as far as i am aware they only take cash but will accept Czk,USA $'s or GB£'s.
Chritina customs really depend on where you are coming from.If within another EU country then there are no customs to go through,if you are coming from a country outwith the EU then yes you will have to go through customs. |
Correction the Shuttle company does now take credit cards but at an additional 4% fee.
|
Thanks for the input. Unclegus, I emailed them and they said I needed to pay in advance with Paypal. You have used them so I assume they are trustworthy. It just seems weird paying in advance. The hotel does have a shuttle but it is $10 more, and the other shuttle just seems like it offers a lot as far as info on tours, etc.
Christina, my concern about customs/passport control was I wanted to know whether I would have to go through all that in Prague, or in Frankfurt, where I have an hour to change planes. Like I said, first time flying alone international so I want to feel like I know what to expect. |
Are you sure that is Prague Airport shuttle.
I am going to contact the owner a see what he says (he's a FB friend of mine) |
I am just wondering if you tied to book with this company.
http://www.prague-airport-shuttle.cz/ very similar web address. i have sent a message to the owner and he may respond to me or to the thread. |
Hi Jayne, this is Chris the owner of www.prague-airport-shuttle.com as I answered in your email we just accept cards through paypal not in the vehicles themselves, I fear we are a bit old fashioned in that way. We will happily wait while you get some CZK from the ATM and then you can pay at the hotel when you arrive.
|
Thanks, ChrisinPrague-- will you help me find an ATM too? :)
|
there are Atms in the arrivals hall about 10 yards from the door from the baggage area, you can't miss them.
|
It's a small and simple airport.
Here's a map of the place with everything you'll need to know. http://www.prg.aero/en/passenger-ser.../airport-maps/ |
Jayne, the ATMs are just beside where we meet clients and the driver will be happy to show you.
|
Thanks a million, Chris, unclegus and L Sky.
Chris, I will be emailing you. |
Jayne, you'll be in good hands with Chris's company. As I mentioned upthread, Chris picked us up at Prague airport last month and service was great.
Hi Chris, you drove my friend and me to Plzen on September 24 and we had a great visit with my cousin. We didn't tour the brewery, however, as neither of us likes beer. Disgraceful, I know, in the CR. |
