Pittsburgh GTG
Hi All
I have only been on this board less than a year, but I am really enjoying myself here. In a couple of threads about USAirways, I noticed that some regular Fodorites are in the Pittsburgh area. I suggested a GTG and Sher and Larry responded. My name is Debbie, by the way, and I live right in the city, but would go to the suburbs if necessary. So, now that I've got the ball rolling, let's see if we can get a response. I would love the date to be before we leave for Italy on February 24. Let's get together and commiserate on our sad state of flying here in the 'burgh. |
That sounds like fun! I live in So. Hills but go "anywhere"; work Mon-Fri. Coffee Roasters or Starbucks in Shadyside might be good, for starters?
|
Since most members for such a meeting would be coming from outside the city you might want to consider a location easy to find; such as near a turnpike or interstate highway exit. Having lived in and around Pittsburgh most of my life Shadyside means something to me but most other members would not have a clue about Shadyside.

Oh what fun ..I wish I still lived in Pgh. so I could join you!!
I thought everyone knew about Shadyside...or am I stuck in the 70's??????? |
Hi Debbie. I am glad you took the plunge.
I will join in. I live about 30 miles North of Pittsburgh. I always say I am from Pittsburgh because who has heard of Ellwood City? But I can get just about anywhere you want to plan it. I do not work, but it may be easier for those that do to pick the time. Since some people may live far away, it might be better on a weekend and not too late for travel back home. Also easy to find near an Interstate or the Turnpike, as Larry suggests. How do you like this crazy weather, by the way? I was thinking since you mentioned Starbucks, that a Panera might work. I think most of them have a seperate room. I have found from other meetings that it is nice to be able to talk among the group without infringing on other diners. But I really am open to any suggestions. Let's get the ball rolling if Debbie wants to have one before the end of Feb. |
There is a Panera at Robinson Towne Center, aka The Pointe at Robinson Township. I suggest this because of the highway connections and easy parking.
Is a Saturday at early afternoon or lunch time a good time? I'm thinking Panera, around 1 pm, because I am done on Saturday at 12;15, but would need a little time to get there. feedback please? Debbie, who seems to have started something! |
Shoot..I know Ellwood Ciry, Indiana, Moon Township,Dubois, Punxsutawney ,Shaler,
I wanna come!! |
Jody. You are welcome to come. I don't know where you live but if I can make it to DC, you can get here.
Robinson Town Center is fine with me. There is a Panera also in Cranberry Township which is at the 79/PA Turnpike connection. But that is really far for Grandmere. It would take just a little planning as I think we would want to ask them to reserve the room. I don't think you need a certain number of people but I would be glad to check into it. Also, since this site will be down tonight for a little while, let us try to keep this to the top to see if we can get others attention. |
Let's see where those from outside the immediate Pgh. area are coming from and then decide north, south, etc.
Sounds like Larry, from 2 hrs. away, is coming farthest, so far; which direction, Larry? (Did I fabricate the 2 hrs.; I don't see it on this post?). |
I think the Cranberry location would be great as it is just off the Pa.Turnpike and I-79. Easy to find for anyone not real familiar with the area. Works well for anyone coming east or west on turnpike or north or south on I-79.

I'm laughing at myself, because I wouldn't think twice about flying off across the ocean for 5 days in Europe, but I got really nervous thinking about Cranberry! ROTFL! When people see me on the North Side or in Squirrel Hill, they grasp their hearts and say they didn't think I could cross the rivers! But I can and will.
My brother lives in NY, in the East Village, and my cousin, who lives on the UES always says my bro gets a nose bleed going above 14th Street. I guess we are alike in not leaving our neighborhoods much, but I look forward to the journey to Cranberry, especially if it will help Larry. |
I live outside of Canton, Ohio. It really wouldn't matter to me where it is held; I only supported Cranberry because it is good for most out of towners since it is on an east / west and a north / south highway. I drive all over the eastern US so anywhere in Western Pa. or the tri-state is no problem for me.

Debbie. My brother lives below 14th Street, also in SoHo.
What a small world. Anyone else interested in a GTG? |
TTT.
|
Sher, my brother lives on 7th St, actually north of Houston. It is a small world. Anyone want to pick a good Saturday?
|
Debbie. Any Saturday is good for me especially since we are thinking early. I was thinking around 1:00pm or so. So let's see if we can grab the others attention to give their opinion.
I know there are others from this area that post because I have seen them mention Pittsburgh. I just do not know who they are. My brother lives one block South of Houston! |
