Again, I have found Pimsleur to be very helpful. It does not make you fluent, of course, but it makes you functional as a tourist--which is what most people need and want when they learn a language late in life.

I am plowing on with Pimsleur and am in Spanish Plus Lesson 3 now.

Friday I was at the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial (I have a guide license in DC and am beginning to work at it as I wrap up my law practice and retire from it). I overheard some people talking in Spanish about the "Chinese womam who designed the Wall". I turned around and gave them the information in English that it was Maya Lin and she was only 21 when she won the competition. They looked at me and said, "Oh, you speak Spanish." I said, "Un poco"--which is the truth now. It was, however, good enough to understand their question. That is good progress.
