Pickpocketing Chances Calculator

I've heard of a new thing that can calculate percentage of chances to be pickpocketed in city where you live (for example Chicago) to city you are going to (for example Paris).
See even remote possibility for this product to exist?

got1tiel Apr 7th, 2005 12:47 PM

yes i know about it. i ran it for Paris and got these results

Percentage Probability of being Pickpocketed:

Americans 76%
West Europeans 40%
French 4%
People fidgeting
with wierd calculators 97%

"See even remote possibility for this product to exist?"

Yes. It will probably make the inventor a bunch of money from the gullible fools who will buy such a thing.

I like your answer got1tiel!

nytraveler Apr 7th, 2005 12:57 PM

To the 97% group I would add

People with fanny packs
People with backpacks
People standing in the middle of crowded sidewalks or train stations looking at maps
People pulling money out of their secret money belts/pockets/bras or whatever

ROFLMAO at that answer, got1tiel!!!!!!!!!

kodi Apr 7th, 2005 01:00 PM

Is this a late April Fool's Day joke?
But I agree with Patrick, if there is such a thing, the inventor will make a fortune. They may even sell it in different colors to match fanny packs.

uuhhhh Apr 7th, 2005 01:02 PM

And you'll be able to clip it onto a giant waterbottle or a baseball hat.

If the chances of being pickpocketed in a foreign city are less than in my hometown, should I move?

((I))

Marilyn Apr 7th, 2005 02:25 PM

Does it have a satellite connection like GPS so it can update your chances from minute to minute as you move around?

Patrick Apr 7th, 2005 02:42 PM

Is there a button to push on it that shows the chances that you were ripped off when you bought the device?

Marilyn Apr 7th, 2005 02:50 PM

No button for that, Patrick. You just push the 1, followed by two zeros, then the % sign and you get your answer. :D

jody Apr 7th, 2005 02:56 PM

What happens to all the ipods, GPSs, wifis, whatever, if there is a solar storm and everything fails? who is going to help these technocrats that can't read a paper guidebook???????

Patrick Apr 7th, 2005 03:00 PM

Good one, Marilyn.

I actually had that there pickpocketing probability engine thingy (got it mail order from The Sharpest Image). But I was carrying it on a trip by Métro the other day, and it...uh...disappeared.

kodi Apr 7th, 2005 03:13 PM

That button on it flashes to let you know you've just been pickpocketed. Just in case you didn't notice on your own.

Robespierre Apr 7th, 2005 03:28 PM

Awwww...maaaaan!

I thought that was my Viagra timer going off...um...prematurely.
