Photos from September 26th Paris GTG

Bonjour all,

The Paris GTG was great fun! The restaurant was open for lunch from noon until 2 p.m., but most of us didn't leave until nearly 3:30.

Attending were me and sis, janyceh, Woody, Cathinjoetown and her partner Meyer, Cholmondley_Werner, Mahya2, gracejoan3, Robespierre and his DW.

I think everyone had a good time. Cholmondley_Werner and Robespierre provided us with some good stories and laughs.

I know that Mahya2 also took some photos, but I understand that she was going on to visit other places, so we'll have to wait for them. Someone also took movies but I don't remember who.

It was so nice meeting everyone, but I regret that I didn't get to talk much with the people at the other end of the table.

There was a little problem with my camera, so I only have four pictures to share, but I think I got everyone in them. Below is the link - I hope it works!

Thanks for posting.

I wish *I* was in Paris and could have joined you!

Holly_uncasdewar Oct 2nd, 2008 12:21 PM

Those are great! Robes looks a lot younger than I had pictured him.

Underhill Oct 2nd, 2008 01:46 PM

Looking great, Joan!

Looks like you had very nice weather for the GTG.

grandmere Oct 2nd, 2008 01:55 PM

Great pictures; what a good time you all must have had! And the weather does look wonderful.

Envy, envy!

travgina Oct 2nd, 2008 03:46 PM

The weather was wonderful! When we arrived the morning of the 24th, it had rained and was foggy, but by the time we got to our apartment, the sun had come out. It didn't rain again until we were back at the airport for our flight home on the morning of the 30th. We couldn't have asked for nicer weather.

Robespierre Oct 2nd, 2008 03:48 PM

Unfortunately, the awnings weren't nearly adequate to keep the blazing sun off everyone. I pleaded with Gilbert to crank them out further, but to no avail. I think service compris is a bad idea.

cigalechanta Oct 2nd, 2008 04:33 PM

great to see all the posters with a face now. The only one I knew was dear Grace.
Thanks travgina.

adrienne Oct 2nd, 2008 05:21 PM

This looks like soooo much fun. Ah well, my time will come.

TRSW Oct 2nd, 2008 06:54 PM

What a good looking group. And I agree, Robes looks alot younger than I had imagined.

tod Oct 3rd, 2008 09:55 AM

Good shot Gina! Is there a special way to see the names of who's who in the zoo??

Maybe you can email me the line-up, like left to right is.........

I am dying to hear about your trip!

Cholmondley_Warner Oct 3rd, 2008 10:01 AM

It's true. The camera adds 10lbs.

nancy1652 Oct 3rd, 2008 10:37 AM

Hi Gina:

Good pictures, however Meyer's partner is me, Nancy, not Cathinjoetown, who probably wishes she was there!

We took Woody's hint and hit the Orsay museum at 5pm when they stop selling tickets and let you in free. If you know the museum well, which we do, you have about 45 minutes to visit your favorite paintings. We also revisted the Marmottan-Monet the other day and it really is spectacular....much better than a few years ago.

Fun to meet you all and thanks, again, Gina for organizing it. We plan to return to the restaurant as it's just two blocks from our apartment.

travgina Oct 3rd, 2008 10:40 AM

Oh Nancy, I am so sorry! I had your name and Cath's next to each other and I checked off the wrong one! I'll go back and recaption the photos.

travgina Oct 3rd, 2008 10:50 AM

tod, there are captions under the photos but, if for some reason you can't see them, I'll email you.

nancy, was it Meyer who filmed the group, or am I wrong on that too - LOL!

nancy1652 Oct 4th, 2008 12:30 AM

Yes, Meyer did take a movie but I don't know if we can download it here because we're using someone else's computer. If we can't, we'll definitely post it after we get home, Nov. 1.

Hello abranz, I just noticed your post inquiring about a GTG in SF. There will be a SF GTG on Friday evening, October 24th actually. It is being held at a rather funky SF Chinese restaurant in North Beach. If you click on the US Board and scroll down far enough you will see the details. Our Faina started the thread. If you would like to attend just post a RSVP and she will be quite happy to add you to the "yes" list. I am not sure if I will be there or not but if I am I would enjoy meeting you. It will be a nice and fun group of Fodorite's who would so enjoy meeting you.

And travgina, your photos and report were fun and interesting! You all looked like you were having a wonderful time. A GTG in Paris, that is priceless!

tod Oct 4th, 2008 06:24 AM

Hi Gina!
OK, got the line-up! Thanks for taking the pics but if I had been lucky enough to join you guys I would have made sure there was one of YOU in the bunch as well!!! Sitting next to your sis of course.
I am hoping there will be more photos from Mahya2.

Sorry you didn't connect with Glenda. Will email you soon.

MomDDTravel Oct 4th, 2008 06:38 AM

thanks for posting the photos - great to see everyone.

Robespierre Oct 4th, 2008 07:48 AM

I wish I had a picture of me noting on my bill the 13€ for a tiny tartelette citron worth 3€, tops.

Next time, let's see if we can choose an ethical restaurateur - where we don't have to put the menu under a microscope before ordering.

travgina Oct 4th, 2008 07:54 AM

Glad you're all enjoying the pictures!

While going through my disk to pick the photos I want to have printed, I found that I overlooked one photo, so I have added it.

loveitaly,
thanks for the info on the oct 24 gtg in sf.
sounds like fun.
i will check out the u.s. forum.
hope i can make it. it has been fun meeting fellow travelers on the forum. in person, would be even better.

Cathinjoetown Oct 5th, 2008 02:01 PM

Everyone--I am so sorry I missed this and I was within .5km of you but that Friday turned out to be the last day in Paris for two of my best friends so I needed to be with them. Wasn't the weather fantastic that week? Alors, a la prochaine...probably terrible French but I'm trying to unearth all my high school, college and year in Lausanne French as we're moving to SW France is March. After the move I'll be Cathinblajan (small village near Boulogne sur Gesse, about 75 minutes south and west of Toulouse).

adrienne Oct 5th, 2008 03:18 PM

Hi Gina,

I only see 4 photos on your site; the same 4 from the other day yet you say you've added another photo. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to sign in or subscribe? I'm clicking on your link and 4 images come up.

Thanks!

Robespierre Oct 5th, 2008 03:21 PM

The fifth picture was deleted at the request of one of the subjects, who shall remain nameless. Well, at least faceless.

cigalechanta Oct 5th, 2008 03:37 PM

I would have sworn that cholmondley was my neighbor, Jesse, however, he never left the neighborhood this past year, so I know it wASN'T HE but they look so alike.

MademoiselleFifi Oct 5th, 2008 03:47 PM

cholmondley looks like how I imagined Robespierre before seeing their photos.

lennyba Oct 5th, 2008 04:39 PM

C-W looks exactly as I pictured him. Rbsp looks much nicer. Ladies, you all look lovely. :)

TRSW Oct 9th, 2008 05:31 PM

Topping for mimi.

Tom

cigalechanta Oct 9th, 2008 06:07 PM

Thank you tom!!!!

Dutch Oct 9th, 2008 06:15 PM

Robespierre - I recognize you. I loaned you 20€ at CDG airport a few years ago.

Robespierre Oct 9th, 2008 06:26 PM

Why would you do that?

Dutch Oct 9th, 2008 06:43 PM

You were wearing a torn coat and muttering something about café au lait.

Robespierre Oct 9th, 2008 07:58 PM

Are you sure it wasn't 20ff?
