How can I thank you enough? Love them. I'm a sucker for nighttime pics, so they were much appreciated. Not having had lunch yet, you've caused some stomach rumbling :)

Last time I was in Paris was in November, and I think you've captured some of that transition of autumn to winter vibe. It's a great time to go to Paris and you get another perspective on the city

Superbe!

The Cirque d'Hiver is one of the wonders of Paris for those looking for something completely different.

Nikki Nov 22nd, 2009 05:41 PM

This year the Cirque d'Hiver is performing from October 24 through March 7. Their website is at http://www.cirquedhiver.com/bouglione.html. There are some stories associated with my visit to the circus that will have to wait for the trip report.

The rue Mornay apartment is listed on VRBO at http://www.vrbo.com/24464.
I have described it in my previous trip report when I stayed there in March, 2008: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...rip-report.cfm

Kerouac, I am curious why this does not look like a Paris apartment to you. The owner lives in the south of France. I believe she has decorated the apartment with things she has acquired on her travels, so maybe that makes for atypical decor.

While I was there, two of the neighbors stopped by with an architect to inspect the balconies for repairs. One of the neighbors told me she has lived in this building over sixty years, since she was two years old. I think the high ceilings, plaster moldings, and French doors running the length of the apartment and opening onto balconies seem very Parisian to me.

Wonderful photos Nikki - it is a real treat to see Paris in her Autumn colours! - I've only ever been when it's Spring or Summer - latest early October.
We went to see the Cirque d'Hiver building in May this year.
Lovely to see the inside. The only thing that I don't like is when I see lions in a circus. Horses & domesticated animals yes, but I can't bare to see elephants, lions or tigers.
The acrobats look simply stunning and it seems as beautiful inside as it outside. Did you not call in at The Clown Bar next door?

Wow. Nikki, the pix are quintessential Paris. Such lovely sky conditions. And the apartment looks terrific. They should use your pictures on the site rather than the ones they have. Thanks for posting. It made my day.

My last trip to Paris was in early November and I loved it, but was also very lucky with the weather, cold, but no rain except for a bit of sprinkle my last day there.

LOVE your pics, my heart is breaking. LOL

avalon Nov 23rd, 2009 10:34 AM

Thanks for the apt details Nikki. Unfortunately it is already booked for our Sept-Oct dates. Oh Well maybe next year. Does it have internet accesss?

Nikki Nov 23rd, 2009 02:11 PM

Thanks for all the lovely comments.

Tod, I didn't go to the Clown Bar (didn't see it). I got to the circus early so spent some time next door at the Bar du Cirque. Must be on the other side of the circus.

Avalon, the apartment does have wi-fi internet access.

Great photographs, thanks. Would you mind letting us know what camera/ lens you used?

HappyTrvlr Nov 23rd, 2009 05:15 PM

Thanks so much Nikki. Where are you off to next?

tod Nov 23rd, 2009 08:41 PM

Nikki - Maybe it's one and the same?
In my little book "Authentic Bistros of Paris" Le Clown Bar appears on page 101 - in the French version book "Au vrai ZINC Parisien" it's on page 100. It says thus:
Joe Vitte, the fifth owner since 1902 and has spent the good part of 15 years behind the bar at the annex to the Cirque d'Hiver. His irreproachable menu is full of delectable and imaginative dishes.

We called in just around 3pm when they were closing until dinner time, so unfortunately could not stay and study the many photographs of clowns from past years and also the wonderful old interior. We were not allowed to photograph the bar area with it's wonderful old zinc counter. Pity.

Farrermog, I shot these photos with a Canon Rebel XTi digital SLR with the 18-55 mm kit lens.

HappyTrvlr, I am off to New York tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Not quite the same kind of trip.

Tod, it is not the same place. The Bar du Cirque is just a little cafe to the right of the circus as you face the building. I am guessing the Clown Bar is to the left.

taconictraveler Nov 25th, 2009 08:00 PM

Nikki: Love my Canon Rebel, but you're doing a better job with yours - and mine's the old one, not digital, so I've deserted it for an HP digital. Ok, but not as good as yours! nice going.

BradandJami Nov 26th, 2009 07:34 AM

Lovely pictures! My husband and I were in Paris Nov 11-16th. Wish we were still there..

Morningglory47 Nov 26th, 2009 08:23 AM

Oh gee - I want to go back - your photos are wonderful.

111op Nov 26th, 2009 09:03 AM

What camera do you use? The indoors circus photos are so clear!

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Nikki Nov 26th, 2009 07:40 PM

Thanks for the continuing comments.

111, you must have missed my post above where I described my camera, the Canon Rebel XTi. I am thrilled with the sharpness of the circus pictures. You should see how many blurry ones I discarded though!
