<< The original post was 10+ years ago....... >>

I've already pointed this out and no one paid any attention.

hetismij2 Jul 12th, 2012 08:29 AM

Does that mean we can't respond to a new, but stupid, posting?

Suspaul Jul 12th, 2012 08:38 AM

Just making a statement, don't get the snippy remarks.

Not at all - as long as you inform or intertain. Cold is entertaining and you are informing. However millie is neither.

suspaul - I'm sure someone will be able to explain the snippy remarks to you.

I bring a small air horn, available at all boat supply stores.

It is legal and makes enough noise to bring a cop.

I am aware that this thread is over 10 years old. But there remains one unanswered question, and I will answer it:

>>>I've never heard of such a thing, but what a great idea. I often find the food underseasoned in Paris. Can you get a salt spray too?<<<

Yes, there is salt spray. It is made from sea salt from the salines of Formentera.

I have a bottle at home - it is quite handy to spray on tasteless food. However, it is pretty expensive compared to regular salt, but cheap compared to the price of an underseasoned Frech menu.

Anyone else wonder how Troy's trip went?

Day 1 - Landed CDG o-seven hundred. Noticed criminals lurking around airport. Ripped off by taxi driver. Found pepper spay at corner store. Tried to check into hotel. Receptionist tried to rip us off by telling us the room wasn't ready, so I gave him a quick squirt. He found us a room alright...

adrienne, no explanation necessary....they just keep on coming

nytraveler Jul 12th, 2012 05:37 PM

Why am I not surprised that someone from Arizona would feel the need to carry a weapon in europe. IMHO - if you think a place is so dangerous you need a weapon - then you shouldn't go.

And pull up a 10 year old post to respond to!

This is almost as bad as the crazy woman from Kentucky or wherever who came to NYC with a GUN in her purse. And then couldn't believe she was arrested for it.

Whoa. A 10-year-old post. Question re pepper spray: Does that stuff spoil in the tube/spray can? Could the traveler use it this year?

LSky Jul 12th, 2012 08:45 PM

What? No uzi? Wimps!

easytraveler Jul 12th, 2012 09:21 PM

This is almost better than the "tipping the pilot" thread :)

For Koreans, who enjoy spicy food, pepper spray is probably what the Department of Defense would classify as a "dual use weapon" - if one can't/doesn't need to use it against a human, one can always use it to douse one's food.

Aduchamp1 Jul 12th, 2012 09:58 PM

When in Paris I do not use pepper spray but fines herbs.

lobo_mau Jul 13th, 2012 03:11 AM

IMHO the OP would feel much more safe if he could find some handcuffs to add to the pepper spray. I guess in the area around Montmartre, a large selection is available. Otherwise google "handcuffs sex shops paris". And I agree with Diana, you have a happy wife.

It amazes me how immature 90% of the people in this forum act what responding to a question. (why even waste your time) Its a legitimate question and who gives a s#$t if you think you're more world traveled than troy. This is Troys first time going to Paris, he is a police office in the US so why bash the guy if he's concerned for his family's well being. I'm from NY, live in Miami so had no choice but to become street smart. Its always good to do your due diligence beforehand to find out what to expect and what to look out for in a new country. Especially if you are traveling with your family. In Troys case Paris is a fairly safe city so you will not have to worry as much as with other cities. Just be very observant of your surroundings.

Padraig Jul 21st, 2012 01:53 PM

You signed up to reprimand people for their reaction to a post made ten years ago? Hardly a good illustration of being "very observant of your surroundings".

colduphere Jul 21st, 2012 02:18 PM

And he swore. I wonder if pc stands for police?

traveller1959 Jul 21st, 2012 02:28 PM

There is only one sound explanation of this thread:

Troy and pcinternational are agents of the French Communist Party who want to arouse anti-American feelings!

kerouac Jul 21st, 2012 03:04 PM

I would love it for Troy to return and tell us about his experiences in Paris and elsewhere over the last 10 years. And also if his pepper spray budget has increased or decreased.
