Bettyo, the day we picked up the car in La Spezia and went off for the day, we got back about 11 and no one was there. We just parked and hoofed back to our B&B, probably about 1/4 mile. There were no chains or gates to keep one out of the lot. The only thing I remember about the walk back to town was that while not a long jaunt, it was quite dark.

The next day we did not need the car but one of our trio went up to retrieve some sunglasses that had been left in the car the day before. I think that was when the fee was discussed with an attendant and paid, a matter of a couple of euros.

The lot for resident parking is up from the station a bit and at the edge of the village.

Okay... thanks, irishface! I'll bring a flashlight just in case...
