I also had a friend from around Boston (lived in Gloucester), named Jane, who loved Paris and died young as your friend did. She was an artist - could we be talking about the same person?

Ditto Michel _Paris , the Place des Vosges and the Isle St Louis..and the gardens at the Musee Rodin.
Then the Yankee and I usually stroll off in any direction, finding more favorite spots.

Sitting on a chair in the Luxembourg Gardens in the fall when it is a bit cold and the leaves are blowing and the workers are wheeling away the trees for the winter....
Sitting in a cafe, with the windows all fogged, sipping coffee and watching the people rushing off to work, school, market and feeling like I am in a small bubble..then it pops and we go out into the cold and rush off too ~
Upstairs in the restaurant in D'Orsay...downstairs where the sculpture of the angel kissing the baby draws me each time..

What is so wonderful about Paris is that you can do these things for the first time and 25 years from now, you can do them again..

For those interested in visiting the Ile St. Louis and ice cream at Berthillon - go down the street to Amorino (47 rue Saint Louis en L’Ile) for really, really good gelato.

I go to watch the sun rise over Paris while I sit on the steps of the Sacre' Coeur. Almost always all alone with my thoughts except for the soft chanting coming from the church.

The first time I was in Paris it was via the Eurostar from London. It was Valentine's Day and 75 degrees. (Yes, it's true..a record temp, 80's in London). I was exhausted but my TC insisted on seeing the Eiffel Tower. So he could know we were in Paris. I acquiessed and was so glad I did. It was magical. And when we got back to the hotel, "Casablanca" was the movie. In English!! And everytime I go to Paris...the Eiffel Tower is the first thing I have to see.

I've only been back 5 months from my 12th trip, and this thread is making me miss Paris so much! For me, the first thing I have to do is stand on the bridge and look at Notre Dame and feel so grateful that I'm back.

I always begin (and end) my trips to Paris with a Kir Royale in one of the cafes at Place Contrescarpe followed by dinner at ChantAirelle near the Pantheon. I always visit the Luxembourg gardens and go to one of the puppet shows there. I add one or two museums to my list each trip - will I ever be able to see them all? I also enjoy an eveing walk through the Palais Royale -- my favorite Paris square. Sunday mornings, I stop at the bird market near Notre Dame. I also make it a point to see whats on offer at the Marche de la Creation (Saturday rue Richard Lenoir and Sunday rue de Gaite.) I am a bibliophile so I make the rounds of all the great bookstores in the 6th. At the end of my trip, a walk near the Seine and a farewell dinner at ChantAirelle (where I have become friends with the staff) are required!

gomiki, I had a similar experience with the Eiffel Tower. I took Eurostar to Paris, got really confused about where the hotel was...tried to tell a taxi driver but he couldn't figure out where it was so I had to figure it out via the Metro, got hopelessly lost, sent from one hotel that told me I was at the wrong one (I wasn't) to another one, then back to the first hotel. I was so stressed and disoriented that I just wanted to sleep. But instead, I wandered over to the Tower at night and it was magical! My opinion of Paris changed instantly from "What am I DOING here?" to "This is amazing!"

If a poster said that they want to have dinner at a 3* restaurant in Paris and asked how to make reservations at Tour d'Argent, would you just answer the question or would you tell them that TdA is now a 1* at 3* prices?
