Fri arrived much too fast. We decided that this was our favorite trip to Paris-perfect weather, good mix of museums and touring, loved our day w/ Michael Osman, was more relaxed about meals and was never disappointed, and it was great to spend time holding hands w/ my DH.
I don't think our feet ever rucuperated from the whirlwind tour day w/ Michael and we were still tired w/ sore feet on Fri. We walked to G2 and picked up about 10 bottles of dijon mustard for home. We had told our kids (ages 4 and 6) that we were going to Paris about 2 weeks before the trip. We told them if they were good we'd surprise them (DH and I had been considering a trip to Disney). My daughter said she wanted Dijon mustard as her surprise (hmmmm-dijon mustard or disney-not too hard to decide!) so we brought her back alot! We stopped in at Bacchus for the rose we liked so much, along w/ our last almond croissant and a piping hot chocolate one for DH. We walked to the Marais and stopped at Cafe de las Musees for lunch-alot of positive comments on websites and it is a Pudlo favorite. It was a very nice lunch and our waiter was a hoot. We snagged a table outside and were perusing Pudlo-he was so excited to see they were mentioned he borrowed it to show the chef. I gave him the other comments too. Was hoping to meet the chef, but they were quite crowded. We toured the Marais and then chose to end our day at the Luxembourg Gardens. There is a great photography exhibit w/ one photo per year on the gates near one of the entrances. We walked around the gardens and sat in chairs and people watched. I am always a bit melalcholy on the last day. We returned at 6, had the rose and the last of the cheese and prepared for our last dinner at Afaria. |
I booked Afaria for our last dinner, hearing it was the new "Spring". They were lovely when we called to reserve. It is a new basque restaurant in the 15th that has received glowing reviews. We love basque food, dining at Le Troquet on each trip to Paris.
We reserved a table os again-they are on a corner that allows about 6 tables os. It is a very quiet area w/ no cars passing by etc. Service was very friendly and the recommended basque wine was lovely. There are numerous menus, and you can pick and choose from them, like a Chinese menu. We chose the sharing menu-appetizer for 2 was snails in a provencale sauce. very tasty and large portion. dinner was duck (DELICIOUS!) that was carved out but served w/ bone below and served on roof tile w/ sticks burning-flavor and smell of it arriving knocked our socks off-spectacular presentation. dessert was the equivalent of beignets w/ a chocolate hazelnut dipping sauce (ok, not great). Our dinner was at 8:30 and the second seating at 10:30, which was about when we were leaving, was hopping. We really enjoyed this, and it almost tied for first place. Dinner came to a bit more than 100 Euros. After dinner, we metroed back to apt, grabbed that last bottle of rose, and walked to the champ du mars where we sat and watched the eiffel tower one more time. As we entered the park, it started sparkling, and a woman close by said "magnifique" and it was. It may not have been a good idea to finish that bottle of wine and stay there til 12:30, for then we had to go back and pack and get up at 6 for the shuttle. I was tired and had a bit of a headache on Sat am, but it was all worth it. Au revoir til our next trip. Hope you enjoyed this report. |
I enjoyed it very much, plambers. Thank you for taking the time to complete it and for all the great restaurant details.

I know how much I rely on opinions so was happy to give mine. We take our food very seriously and with so few days and so many restaurants, I hope this helps.
I know Maribel also wanted to know about Afaria, since it is a new Basque restaurant, and we both appreciate Basque menus. |
Plambers,
I missed your trip report the first time around... because I was in Paris at the time. When I did a search for info. on Afaria today, your post appeared. Well, thank you for all the delicious details! Like you, my husband and I also find a week in Paris to be a most relaxing vacation. We're also smitten with the city, keep returning again and again, and often stay in this part of the 7th. I'd love to hear more about your apartment rental, and thanks again for posting. EJ ((#)) |
